So sorry to hear about your trouble. My 0.02 cents is fix the things that are currently need attention: maybe the leaky steering rack and pump, the wheel bearing and the a/c wire. Wait on the others that are still working and fix them when they are near failure or finally go. As another poster said: some of those things can take years to fail: why spend the money on preventative repairs. Identify the serious leaks that are leaving drips overnight on the driveway and address them one at a time when they reach that point. Good luck and thank you for your service.

I also have bought a 1st gen with twice the milage as I thought long story. I have it a little over a year now it needs bunch of things but call me stupid I love Tacoma this is what I can afford so I will slowly get it fixed and if I don't have the money no one going to repo it. FYI I do all the repairs myself and so far I enjoy working on it. It's very well made and kinda easy to work on so far. IDK I have had 4 Toyota trucks in my life and all of them have been very reliable except for frame on two that were 4x4 the other were 1982 diesel 2wheel and 1988 1ton 22re these were very neglected and still had well over 200.000 thousand miles and ran good the 1ton had probably over 300 IDK because mileage stopped recording at 234 and it never ever burned oil even if oil wasn't changed @10000

I didn't realize it was possible to "roll back" a digital odometer.

Car max offered 8k, they printed out the vehicle history from experian too and said there wasn’t an odometer issue. I looked at it myself and you can see it clear as day

It’s pretty weird and quite lucky, due to the title history and specifically being from CA. So when the mileage is reported during each sale in some other states like Arizona the state will actually catch the odometer had been altered and assign it a rolled back mileage title as mentioned earlier in this thread, CA doesn’t do that, therefore it was reported the truck had odometer issues. CO doesn’t have any title that says rolled back mileage but they have what’s called mileage exempted which applies to older cars and not necessarily cars that had been rolled back. The other thing is how experian reported the vehicle history, they grab that history from DMV data bases and since CA never reported the mileage was rolled back it came up clean despite it coming up with last mileage report from the first owner having more that 205k miles. The 2nd owner started out with around the same mileage and his last report was when I bought it at 72.5k.

I think what happened since experian didn’t report an odometer issue they put the current 145k on the clock into their appraisal software. Carmax’s representative and I both signed a document stating I did notify them of the questionable history and they are aware of the exempt title. They said they were going to auction it off as whole sale so they will most likely lose money in it. I will miss this truck; I grew up in this truck, it got me through college, so many memories, so many frustrations.
