Hey all. I've recently had some noisy issues coming from my front suspension and the mechanic told me today that my shocks are going out.

They are trying to sell me monroe coilovers, but i'd prefer to replace with the Bilsteins. Problem is I cant find anywhere that sells the whole OEM coilover assembly already put together so I can just plop it in and out.

Will I have to buy just the shock and 1. get a shop to replace the shot into the assembly or 2. loan a tool from an auto store and do it myself? Does anyone know where to purchase a complete OEM coilover?

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Check the buy sell trade threads. You can find takeoffs reasonably priced.

I did check around on some toyota parts websites, but nothing that's completely assembled.

Made a post in the buy/sell section to see if anyone has some they are trying to offload.

I've found an interesting method to remove the shock from the assembly with no compression tools, two different people have a video on it.

Wonder if I should give this a go.

No one sells OE assemblies because Toyota doesn't sell them like that, and I can't imagine the cost to buy OE struts, springs and mounts and then spend time assembling them would be justified by the piddling demand for outrageously expensive non-lifted shock assemblies. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Monroe fan at all, but I shudder to think what buying all that from Toyota would be.

Just find some takeoffs. They're cheap, easy, OE, and can be had with little age and miles.

You can find 3rd gen trd take-offs on Craigslist for $free-500 with near zero miles, and they will give you an inch of lift in the front. People are almost giving them away after they lift their new trucks. If you are looking for stock replacement, it’s hard to beat

I use this method. I am assuming you want to stay stock height. With an impact, it takes about 30-45 mins a side, 30 mins cleanup. After your done with any install whether you do it or have a shop do it, it needs to go strait to an alignment shop!

I agree with what others suggested, best bet, if your wanting to stay stock is to find a new set of assemblies someone took off.

FYI, if you order coils and struts from just about anywhere, they will assemble them for like $25 a side.

i just assembled my own. i ordered new kyb strut mounts and used this spring compressor to take old ones apart and put new ones together. not hard at all an i just used a large box end wrench instead of air tools to tighten the spring compressor

A set of 5100 are pretty cheap, not too bad to install once you have the tool. The 5100's will improve ride and handling as well. I run the 6112's on the second setting and got 1.5" of life with my bumper (ARB).

Here is a link, they can be found cheaper too.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
What city area are you in?
I have take-offs from my 2015 in my shed. Fully assembled front shock/spring. Have other parts too. About 11,000 miles on them.

There are plenty of us that installed lifts and still have stock parts laying around for free/cheap.

I should update this post. I picked up a pair of take-offs from another member. Thanks though everyone!
