Four months and 20k miles in a Tacoma

The rest of these are from the hike out. I had some pretty decent blisters going by the time I finished this. Took maybe a quarter of the pictures on the hike out as I did on the hike in.

Did you get up to Bryce/Zion?

 

So I left the grand canyon and drove down to mesa AZ just outside of phoenix. Picked up the add a leaf for the dakars down there. Didn't like how the leaves were handling the weight of all my gear. With a full tank of gas the drivers side was on the bump and the passenger side was damn close.

Left mesa and headed up flagstaff. Caught a movie there and spent the night in wal mart parking lot next to another tacoma with it's owner sleeping there. No Pictures. Left flagstaff on 89 north and went through tuba city on 160. Drove up to Kayenta AZ and took 163 to Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods. Didn't go all the into Monument Valley and spent the night in Valley of the Gods.








Left the VotG and headed north 191. Turned off on 262 headed west and found my way up through Montezuma Canyon.

 

No. I stayed on the eastern side of Utah. I'll get those another day.

 

Now it was getting awful close to the tacoma world meet in in Moab. So after I left Montezuma canyon I went north on 191 to Moab. My First night there I tried doing the La Sal pass trail but ran into too much snow and slept up the mountains.






After my night on the mountain I decided to head over and do top of the world trail. Couldn't climb the ledge in the first pic. Wheels got too light and no lockers. So I just went around it and made it to the top.

 

Met some guys at area BFE that were there with real rock rigs. Got to spend a day with them doing some the trails in BFE. It was a blast and I can't thank them enough.

 

Don't really have any pictures from the tacoma worldmeet itself. I only got one day of wheeling in with a group. It was fins n things. Great day there. I owe ckeene a forum member a big thank you.

I left out of Moab a couple days after the meet ended. Headed back south out of town 191 till I hit 46 east into colorado. That turns into 96 in Colorado. Took 96 to 145 then 145 down to Delores CO.


From Delores I took 184 to 160. The 160 east to Durango. 550 North out of Durango to silverton. I cut across cinnamon pass from Silverton to Lake City CO. The below pictures are from Silverton to Lake City.

 

From Lake city it was north up 149, then 50 east to 285 north to 24 north to Leadville. 91 north after Leadville to 70 east to 40 north. At granby I took 34 to Rocky Mount NP. All the following pictures are from RMNP.









I did some hiking in the park and camped out tenting two nights.

Just a few more from RMNP. There is a lot more to see when you drive through the park, but after a while I slowed down on the number of pictures I was taking.

 

Left RMNP headed east on 34 to loveland CO. Left Loveland going north on 287 until I hit 14 west. Took 14 west to Walden and then 125 north to Cowdry. I took a road out of Cowdryy to 230 in Wyoming. Once you hit Wyoming that road 407 and national forest road. It becomes 404 and then 211 and comes out near Riverside WY. I went west towards encampment and took 70 west until I hit 801 North. 801 turns into 401 and then turns into 71 and takes you into Rawlins Wyoming. Don't have any pictures from this leg of the trip but it was some beautiful semi remote to remote country.

I took 287 north out of Rawlins until I could hit 63 west and start cutting across the great divide basin. I took 63 west to 23n south to 20 west. 20 west until i hit 21 north to 74 north till it turned into 445. 445 takes you out of the basin. Theere are bunch of other roads you can do, but this lead in the direction I wanted.





This old boy didn't like me at all and didn't want to give up the road. He started pawing and stamping the ground when he saw me coming. Tossing his head and just acting all pissed off.


This was more towards the north west end of the basin. Pretty sure it was the Oregon Buttes if I remember correctly.


And then this last was red canyon north of the basin on route 28.


So after I left the basin I took 28 north to Lander WY. From Lander i took 287 up to Dubois. Spent another night in a hotel in Dubois. Took 287 north out of Dubois until I could take 240 southwest into the wind river mountains and the bridger teton national forest. 240 became 263. 263 beame forest road 600 or Union Pass road. That took me down to 352 and eventually 191 north to Jackson WY and Tetons.

 

All my Wyoming road numbers come from a new delorme atlas and gazetteer, and from what I can remember matched everything I found actually driving the roads. Next is Yellowstone NP, but I spent some time there and need a break from this for now.

 

Nice, nice, nice. Thank you for posting all this. Absolutely spectacular scenery you've driven through. Good on you for finding and driving the smaller scenic roads. Lived in Colorado for 20 years from '70 - 90 and miss those mountains.

Looks like a great trip. Looking forward to hearing and seeing the rest. Did a 6 week trip out west/southwest in 86. 11,000 miles. Been to a few of the same places and this brings back memories.
