When I was a kid my dad got fired. He took the opportunity and thru us all in the station wagon. We went the northern route to the west coast and the southern route back. My brother and I slept in the back and my mom & dad in the front. Wish I had the testicular fortitude to do it. Thanks for posting.

Your first pictures, I'm about ten miles from Caprock Canyon State Park, in Quitaque, Texas, and for y'all that's (Kitty-quay) I hope you went to the train tunnel, while you were down here. Love your pictures.

Awesome pic! Were people courteous to you, especially when they see you can down from Maine?

Brings back memories! Have been to many of the places pictured (maybe from different directions), deja vu. I might add, with few exceptions, the lions share, if not all, of trip can be made with a "stock" 4X4 Tacoma. OP, be safe.

Is the trip done OP? Always love to see people do this stuff. Had a buddy take off, quit his job and hike the Appalachian trail. Said his only regret was not doing it sooner. His life was forever changed for the better. Hope you found what you were looking for!
What is a wild guess as to how much money this costs? I know gas prices change etc... But it makes a guy wonder how much to keep in his oh shit fund in the event that this opportunity ever turns up.

Two years ago - Louisville - Cold Foot AK - Louisville - 9647 miles - 6 weeks - Tundra w/ 8' Palomino pop up trailer. $4062.21 grand total (Fuel, food,(includes restaurants) camping fees, fishing lic. misc. etc etc - no motels) Fuel only = $2713.95 (paid as much as $5.00 per gal in remote parts of B.C.) Fuel is a little cheaper now, averaged 15mpg, but worth every penny.

Very cool. I wish I had done something like this when I was younger. Now with a family and all the things that come along with that I don't see it happening for a while.

Did not know about the train tunnel. Would have done it if I had known. Thank you.

People were very nice. Got some odd looks and lots of questions when locals would see the maine plates way out in the willy wacks. Lots of "how'd you find this place?".

Trip is done. I finished at the end of August. I could have done it cheaper if I had really tried. Trip was right about 10k.

Nice bud. I have a friend that does a Maine accent..... he sounds like the Pepperidge Farm guy. At least they didn't make fun of the way we talk up here in NE. :p

    Awesome thread BTW!
