I learn more and more every day at TW! Would be nice to know if the FWC can be semi-easily removed with some sort of pulley system that would allow for removal if necessary.

My mind keeps thinking of new things to do!

The Four Wheel Campers can be removed off the truck within 30 minutes. Undo turnbuckles, attach jack stands, raise camper and drive out. Super easy.

We installed this camper on my truck at Expo East in about 30 minutes on an uneven surface. Really Easy with the jacks and turnbuckles

Thanks @eevaldes ! Just out of curiosity, where would you attach the jack stands to raise the camper? New to the overlanding but something the wife, dogs, family will be getting into this year.

OMG! That looks about PERFECT for us! I love the color! We are getting a cement 2019 DCSB OR soon! Within weeks! Not sure I could get it into the garage though with the camper on.

I lifted my truck with a set of OME BP-51’s. In addition, I added a set of Firestone Ride Rite airbags. I have BFG KO2's in 285/70/17.

The jacks attach to the jack brackets on the four corners of the FWC. Super easy to attach.

I’ve camped in a similar swift shell model that’s pictured and it’d plenty comfortable for me, my wife, and 2 small kiddos.

I basically spend my days dreaming of winning $35,000 so I can buy an Alucab Khaya fully kitted out.

Time to dig up an old thread cause I’m looking for campers, how in the world did you find a 2013 for $2500? I’m currently looking at a severely outdated 1980’s slide in for $1800

These were photos my wife took out in the seven devils spring/summer of ‘18.

The Forest River Real Lite / Palomino 1600 Softside series gained some weight around 2014 IIRC. They changed some features, making the pop-up feature motorized and added an outdoor shower among other things. There is no way the newer models are the same weight as that 2013 or older models.

I know of some guys that boast their shell model 4WC are ~600# when empty. This one is ~1050# with a full kitchen, 3-way ‘fridge, 10,000 btu furnace, 2-burner stovetop, kitchen sink, empty freshwater hold and a full bottle of propane. You can leave the bed made - pillows and all - unlike the 4WC that require some modulation once popped up.

Configured like this the truck scales at ~6k#.

So finding one isn’t easy. There are always A LOT of new ones for sale at deep discounts in the Mid-West, which makes sense because they’re made out there.

I looked every chance I could, set up CL search criteria with email notifications and just plain got lucky. There was an old man in Idaho who sold his Tacoma, bought a 1/2 ton with a pull behind 20-something foot long camper and was “stuck” with this slide in.
It was fall of 2017 and he had it listed in the Boise CL ads for weeks. I was working on a project fire on my home unit in the PNW and was tied to work with no days off for a few weeks. But it just sat there.... the only folks who were calling about it were from California and he wasn’t really the patient type looking to “deal” with “CA yuppie scum” mailing him a check to hold it for them. He had it listed for almost 30 days when I showed up to get it. He took my cash offer, 1000 below what he listed it for in a heartbeat...probably because his HOA was hounding him over it.

I have family in Idaho, finding something like that would be a god send.... let alone owned by an old man! You got very lucky and I’m very jealous. Hopefully this late 80’s Viking pans out and I can remodel it back into shape.

are you happy with a slide in? Or is it too heavy for a Tacoma. I feel like where I go I don’t want a trailer but my RTT takes a while to get set up and gets cold in anything lower than 25 degrees

To say I’m very happy w/ it wouldn’t begin to truly describe how awesome it is. I’ve lived in it for weeks at a time out at the base. Having a furnace and a couch to chill on while you’re having your AM coffee is a game changer.

With Airbags and the right tires I feel like I’m set up for the weight just fine. I do run 75w140 in both boxes and the transfer case (ECGS recommends it in the TC while I’ve been running it in the boxes for 30k)

Yes it will still go 80 on the freeway but I don’t really like getting 12-14 MPG so I try to keep it more civil, especially when I’m pulling the boat.

No worries. Let me know if you have any other questions about them. I’ve had good success in building out a custom solar power setup for it as well.
