I have it hanging off the propane tank itself, it is a good mount location. I didn't really worry about it, good point though

Hey y’all new here but have been building FWCs and Toyotas for 30 years .. I have a new build and wondering what racks fit a 22 Tacoma DC TRD OR with FWC eagle ? Do you have to buy a shorty prinsu habitat or will full length fit under the camper ? A6841CEE-E552-40D5-8309-ED919DAF3990.jpg

I had the prinsu installed way before I put the camper on. You will def want to take the camper off for the install. It is probably possible with the camper on but very difficult.

This place makes racks of all sizes specifically for trucks with larger cab-over campers: I've got one of their racks & didn't have to remove my FWC for install. https://sherpaequipmentco.com/products/animas On my configuration, the front wind faring doesn't fit w/ the MaxTrax, and I removed the side farings & front bar (after this photo) because there was way more wind noise with them on.

Here's a pic w/o the side wind farings & front bar. I'd be surprised if the whole rack weighs much more than 10-ish lbs now. A7401697.jpg

Finally got to take the FWC for a shakedown trip. Bought it in November but between the winter and being busy it's taken a bit to get a free weekend.
Kiptopeke State Park. Winds around 30mph sustained last night, no problems

Also, discovered that myself, my wife, and my 100 pound dog can all be inside and doing things at the same time.

i've been pondering a 4 wheel camper for some time. I own a 2020 m/t TRD-OR and have spoken to my local four wheel camper dealer at length.

His advice was to not put it on a Tacoma and that i should consider a full size truck. His advice was based on suspension, power and gas milage concerns. He's happy to sell me one but that was his advice.

Obviously you all have trucked one around. Do you consider the Tacoma adequate in terms of power with a 1000 lbs. on? getting blown around by wind much? how much of ding to mileage do you have? Would you prefer a full size truck?

My truck has had no mods done. I know I would need to improve the suspension but at what cost? I have recently put new tires on and I have Cooper Discoverer At 3 E1OWL's

Is your truck an Access Cab or Double Cab? If it's DC it's a short bed since you have the OR package.

I consider the Tacoma perfectly adequate for the FWC. I live and use it in the piedmont coastal plain area usually (very flat) and I actually got around 16.5 mpg last trip. My Tacoma has 5100s all around with OME 886 coils and icon RXT leaf pack on stage 2. I also have Firestone ride rite air bags with Daystar cradles. I run them at around 40 psi with the FWC on. Of course the truck gets blown around a bit in the wind. But I drive much bigger trucks for work and it doesn't bother me. A full size truck with an FWC would get blown around just as much. I can say I've had no power issue with the Tacoma (4.0 V6) but I'm not in any steep terrain or altitude so far.

I have a double cab short bed.

    my Tacoma has a 3.5 L v6. I think it’s underpowered without a load

I’m sure ur right about wind.

I have a DCLB and had an FWC Eagle, I didn't mind the weight the truck pulled it fine. For some reason the DCLB's all had a problem with snapping the turnbuckles. Go check out Wanderthewest.com for a ton of information on FWC's with Tacomas. We loved ours but it was a royal PITA dealing with the turnbuckle problems. I still have the Tacoma but now have a Tundra with an FWC installed full time. With the short bed you're going to have to deal with the overhang. The suspension issues can be addressed like @RedWings89 posted above and the rest of his post is spot on.

Isn't a FWC Fleet, usually on a Tacoma, the most popular model that FWC sells?

Not sure about that one. I see a hell of a lot of FWC's out here, all different models.

if i had a fullsize i would definitely no longer have the awning anymore, and whatever else trees will grab at.
i wanted a tacoma because it's smaller. I made changes to make it work with the extra weight

I heard same story from a sales person at their Woodland factory. But if that is true, why does FWC even offer the Fleet model???. It's not like someone will put a Fleet on a Tundra! Or there another mid-size pickup I should have bought to slide under a Fleet?
