Why going to Dakars? I've got the Dakars with extra leaf and with my shell loaded there is still flattening of the leafs.

I've also got Dakar's w aal- and they've taken a beating- so much so that I'm installing Firestone ride rites with Daystar cradles to help them out. Custom leaf pack or maybe expos would handle better and may not need extra assistance?

Hey guys I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD OR LB and just bought a 2017 FWC Fleet. My current upgrades to the Tacoma are OME suspension all the way around with 887 springs up front and Dakar leaf pack in the rear. My tires are Cooper AT3 LT275/70/17 C load. I went in to discount tire today and they told me my tires can hold 2600 on each tire and that I am well within the limit and will not need to upgrade to a 10 ply tire. However, I see a lot of guys with E load tires and air bags with the four wheel campers. Can anyone help tell me if I am good to go with my current set up with the Dakar leafs in the rear? I have not been able to find out how much the Dakars are rated for weight wise. Thanks in advance guys!

After I got a couple flats I decided to go with E tires. Depending on how much weight you are carrying you will need an AAL/Air bags/better bumpstops.

Thank you for the reply! I think being overkill with E rated tires would be a good trade off. The combination on my current Dakar leafs and firestone ride rite air bags is what I'm leaning to trying. Just want to get it right the first time.

Is your camper fully loaded or a shell model?
Mine is a Finch shell that comes in at 575lbs. I did a spread sheet for my normal camping gear for the weight. There are many variables to consider. I went with a 235/85/16 Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain with kevlar. My buddy runs the same tires and between the two of us there is probably about 10-15k miles off road without issue. They aren't very burly looking in tread pattern but they have taken us all over Death Valley and Owens Valley.

Check out Wander the west if you haven't already. It is all about pop-up campers and is a wealth of information.

It will be a fully loaded fleet model not a shell. My guess is around 1500 loaded with gear and the weight of the camper. So really not that heavy. I have been on wander the west and it is a great source of FWC information but was hoping tacomaworld would be a better source for specific suspension questions with the FWC and Tacoma together.

I had a pretty much loaded Eagle and I have Dakars w/AAL, Ride Rite Airbags on E Rated Tires. I also upgraded the front brakes and did SS Brake Lines all around.

Any I bet you had no issues with that set up? I guess I'll have to look into the AAL with the Dakars. SS brake lines I haven't thought about but I guess that makes sense.

Mine weighed #1230 empty from the factory. That was a lot of weight on a 1/2 ton truck, definitely open up your stopping distance, until you get use to the additional weight. Enjoy, they're great campers!

The SS Brake Lines made a world of difference, highly recommended. I got mine through Crown Performance but there are a lot of vendors.

You are going to be heavy for sure. WTW has more info on the campers and Tacomas. There are a lot of Tacoma owners there. Sounds like you will need airbags in addition to the suspension increase and bumpstops (front/rear).

Anyone on here have a solution for a dog ramp of some sort to help the 4 legged friends get in and out of the camper easily?
