Tacoma's are junk and a far cry from what they once were in their Gen 1 iterations. They have only gotten bulkier, quality control, quality assurance has gone down the drain and the body that surrounds the panels are made of what should just be labeled soda can material. The seats are conformed to fit what would be a slender 75lb japanese man which are far from comfortable or even placed correctly in ride height, and they ride on a frame architecture and parts bin of what is the 2nd gen Tacoma all while not addressing the long withstanding factory issues that the 2nd gen was known of and long complained of by the consumer base.

I'm in no way surprised you are having any of these issues OP. That being said, a lot if not all the negatives I stated are easy to remedy, unfortunately, however, at the end of the day they wind up costing the end consumer out of pocket to rectify issues that shouldn't have been a thing in the first place, and that's what I hate about these trucks.

I'm in deep on this truck, without a doubt with a parts bin full of parts, but it's exactly the way I want it and it performs exactly how I need it to. A cost that is not for the faint of heart post purchase. I still hate it though, and I still think it's junk.

I had a gen 1 tundra, and really liked it. The tundras have also gotten full of pork. Toyota did surveys....most wanted larger trucks with double cabs. Unfortunately for some of us it's just the way it is. I bought a 3rd gen access cab tacoma, its been impressive enough that I've forgotten about my old tundra.

I thought I had a really good running taco till I got to run it against my buddies frontier. Gotta admit I took a good old ass whipping. That frontier would have annihilated his old 2019 trd.

That might be true, but Tacoma has more than enough power for any kind of merging/passing/emergency manoeuvres etc.

I've got more than enough power in mine too. It would run away from his old taco. I could see why he's so happy with his frontier....now an even bigger reason...myself:facepalm:

Actually the bigger the truck and tires for some people means they are making up for smallness in other areas

I will say, it’s been a good (not perfect) truck for $34k (2019 prices)

Def slow and a bit anemic

All i got to say is when the old Tundras were the same size as the current tacoma’s, those tundras had v8’s!
Thise chonky lil truck could def use more powah!

    Wow 21 pages of this.

The biggest Takeaway of all this is, people don’t research a product before they buy? People expect a Tacoma, a midsize or some thing a compact truck form like a three-quarter ton truck. Keep them all the shit out of it, and then complain about few miles acceleration and drive ability?

The one disappointing point is quality. With this being said, I hate to admit it, but it is very disheartening the Toyota that used to be built in Japan is now built in Mexico. It is what it is, it’s a sign of the times, it’s manufacturing moving , it’s the use of a labor force that is available and willing to work.

Loved my 2002, love my 2023

The gen1 tundras had v8's but they were a few hundred lbs heavier too. The juice my 2020 v6 taco has will make you forget about those tundras.

Imo, I'd never buy a Mexican built vehicle even though they're great at making taco's.
Heck on another note...would you buy a Lincoln made in china?
