I just ordered the Fox 2.0 coilovers and rear shocks for my 17 4x4 4 cyl. I paid 1030 total with no tax and free shipping. I’ll let u know how they r when I get them put on.

On a side note. When I had an 09, I put 5100’s on and after a short amount of time the upper/top strut mount hat(not sure the correct name) where the top of the shock goes thru hogged itself out from rubbing against the shock piston. The piston looked like it had a chip in it......this happened twice. After the second time, I went with Fox coilovers, zero issues.

I still can't decide on which shocks to go with the fox 2.0's or bilstein 6112's cuz after visiting a couple of my local shops they were telling me that fox's after a while leak since they've seen so many come back for warranties. They told me to go with bilsteins instead since they're better quality & lifetime warranty so is it true that fox's are notoriously bad for leaking? Has anyone here with the fox's experienced these issues? I want to know your opinions before I decide which ones I should go with.

My rear Bilsteins (5100) leaked at freezing temps every winter, changed them to Fox 2.0 couple years ago and I’ve had any problems since.

Fox 2.0 seem way over priced. I got the bilstein 6112 and 5160s for 930 shipped to my door. Actually will end up paying around 800 with Amazon gift card and 5% cash back.

As someone with a 3rd gen and the fox 2.0 kit, I say go with the 6112’s. I’ve been happy with the 2.0’s, but the ride can be a little stiffer than I like. I have mine set to level the front and that’s about it. So even with little preload, it still rides a little stiffer than I had hoped.

I’ll be swapping mine out soon for the set of king extended travels that are sitting in my garage and the fox kit will go up for sale.

But have you had any leaking issues with your fox's?

No leaks as far as I’ve seen. I’ve only got just shy of 8k miles on them currently.

This is interesting to hear. I was under the impression Fox was progressive, as is King, and would be more of a soft ride at slower speeds. The factory OR springs are also progressive. Bilstein (5100/6112) I believe is digressive, so I would assume they'd be more firm than Fox overall, but having not run either I cannot confirm.

So do you find the Fox 2.0 to be more firm than the factory OR suspension?

Yes I’d say it is firmer than the factory suspension. Ride quality is subjective though. I found it to be firmer than I’d like, others may really like it though.

I couldn’t agree more about ride quality being subjective.

It’s tough to gather an understanding of differences between setups when the general feedback is ‘I like it,’ or ‘so much better than stock.’

I’m not trying to knock anyone, just pointing out that those types of reviews take an already subjective topic down an even steeper grade of vagueness.

I’ve actually been looking at the Fox 2.0 with the intent to keep them on a low setting, no more than 1.5” of lift. I like the factory on road performance of the OR suspension and would like to retain that if possible, while still adding a small lift.

I totally agree. It’s tough to decide on a setup based solely on internet reviews.

I’ve got mine setup exactly how they came from the factory. I ended up getting just slightly over 1inch of lift. Probably closer to 1.5inches, it has settled a little. I’m not sure how much off hand, but from a visual perspective I can tell.

It seems the 6112s get a lot of hype around here, in part because they are a 2.5” shock that is affordable. I haven’t run them, nor have I ridden in a truck with them so I cannot comment on ride or performance quality.

What I do find interesting is that many folks here will advise new members to avoid setting their 5100s on the highest clip with factory coils because the preload will result in a harsh ride. Aren’t the 6112s achieving lift in the exact same fashion, preloading the coil? Seems like the higher you go on a 6112 the more stiff/firm/harsh the ride would become??

I have over 29K miles on my FOX 2.0s, ordered them before they were on the market. Set at 3", adjusted them on the truck with weight off wheels. Added a Pelfreybilt steel bumper, 10K steel cable winch, full set of skids. I absolutely love the ride both on and off road. Only lost a 1/4" on the lift with all of the steel. See pics.

You have to preload the coil on any coil over suspension in order to increase ride height, unless you swap to higher spring rate then you can decrease preload. Preload isnt a bad thing. Accutune had a good post on this exact subject.

You are correct, and I fully understand the concept of preload acheiving lift.

My comment was more of an observation that I find humorous, a rhetoical question rather.

It is certainly quite humorous. Logic and reasoning are not strong suits of most forum communities.

Interested in your feedback on these as I'm in the market for some new shocks. 30k on the original OR Billy setup has got me ready to do a swap.
