I know the answer to this question (I think), but I’m posting mainly to voice my frustration. I need folks on TW to listen....

Lifted my 3rd Gen as part of dealer agreement when I bought it two years ago. They contracted out with a 4WP and they really didn’t know what’s going on. The dealer agreement was a spacer lift, but I negotiated with 4WP to spec Fox coil overs, icon UCAs and a icon AAL in the rear. 4WP was pretty adamant that my rear OEM billsteins were up to the task, even with a 1” lift in the rear. Long story short, the Billsteins ate themselves with the bearing housing separating while I was out camping.

So anyway, I was looking forward to replacing the OEM rears with some Fox 2.5s to match the front. However Fox is backordered until July, and an undamped rear is pretty sketchy driving on the highway. An online store ( that will remain nameless for now) was showing them in stock and I placed the order, while skeptical that they *actually* had them. Sure enough emailed them after they charged my credit card, and got a response a day later that they didn’t actually have them in stock. They gave me the option to send me the 2.0 Performance (p/n 117) they had in stock. There was a local company that also had the 2.0 in stock, but I decided what the hell, I’ll give these online guys my business. Meanwhile searching on the internet, these guys have no phone number, and let’s say their ratings online are mixed. So I was sweating things a little bit. I was stoked to see the shocks actually show up today, 2 business days after they ordered them.

Anyhow, go to start the install and the driver side goes super smoothly. I go to install the passenger side and it’s fighting me a bit more. I finally get everything buttoned up and start to question why things were harder on the other side. Yes, the bracket was in other direction, but the passenger side seemed longer. Even though my jack was at its highest height, I still needed to compress the passenger side to fit. Something I didn’t have to do on the driver side. I chalked it up to an uneven garage floor.

So I decided to wrap things up, torque, clean up etc. I then laid down on the couch with a beer.... Then it hit me. GO CHECK THE P/Ns ON THE BOX.

    One 117 and one 118. F*CK!!!

So now I’m faced with either I drive down to Fox and have them rebuild a brand new shock (I live in SD), or I have the place I bought them from send me the correct shock.

I think the collective wisdom is I wouldn’t want to run them an additional .5” on the passenger side correct?

I rebuild MTB suspension, so I know at least the oil volumes would be different. I think internally the only thing different is the 117 has a .5 travel spacer under the piston head?

For those of you wondering, I’ll out the company if they don’t find a satisfactory way to make it right.

    Time for more beer.

EDIT: After looking at the info on Fox’s website, they are two totally different shocks. Compressed and Extended lengths are different.

    Just went out to measure.

Body on the 117 is 12.5

    on the 118 it’s 13.5.

not just a internal spacer/travel limiter issue

My quick search shows 117 as non- adjustable and 118 with a compression adjuster. Both fit.

Why would you go to Fox and get it rebuilt?

"Running it additional 0.5"", what does that mean? That won't matter.

Oil volumes different? Totally irrelevant on shocks like this.

Make sure you don't have 2 different models of shocks. If they're the same and they don't bottom or top out early as your suspension cycles everything is technically fine.

I'm with you now. 117 spec'd to fit 2-3" lift and 118 3.5-5". If you're just 1" the 118 may very well be a touch long.

Not that big of a deal just very frustrating.

On stock wheels/tires or stock height?

Here is my rear fox 2.0 with no additional lift. (its the 117 so I can lift the rear if I want to... currently sits nearly level)

No, it was The Yota Garage. I gave them 24hrs to get it sorted, but no joy.

Buyer beware. I gave them more than one opportunity.
