Fox 2.0 Snap Ring Coil-over, setting for 2” lift

**UPDATE- See post 9 for full report: Installed on the MIDDLE Snap Ring and got 2” up front. I DO NOT recommend using top ring!**

I’m 1 week out from installing Fox 2.0 snap ring IFP up front with 2.0 RR in the rear & HS 3 leaf aal. I plan to use my OEM coil at the top ring to achieve 2” of lift per instructions.
When I measure distance between bottom and middle ring, there is 7/8” gap. Won’t that achieve @ 1.75” at the middle ring?
Im concerned at top ring I will get 3”-3.5” of lift. Anyone with Fox, Eibach or Billies able to measure ring gap distance against actual lift achieved?
I called Fox customer service. Nice guy tried to assure me the ring settings would achieve 0”, 1” or 2” of lift for a 3rd gen. Doesn’t seem right...assuming the gap between rings is equivalent to 2 to 1 preload adjustment lift results on an IFS truck. Am I right or am I missing something?

 

I I am not familar with the Fox 2.0 but I would ditch the oem.springs and go with a 2" lift spring like Eibach or Old Man Emu and use the clip at the bottom setting. You would get a better ride.

 

Honestly it's a gamble and results will vary. Many factors including which OEM spring you are using, how old your oem springs are, how heavy your truck is. They all play a roll in determining what height you end up with. You can put the same lift on 2 of the same trucks and end up with slightly different results. With that said if Fox says you should get a specific lift at the top notch I'm sure it will be close to what they say. Good luck and don't be upset of you have to take things apart and lower or raise a notch. It happens.

 

Thanks for the reply- Eibach 2” coil is my backup plan, but wanted to use the OEM coil since it’s new. I’m good if I only get 1.5-1.75” at the middle ring. Just trying to make sense of this spacing.
Still searching for similar photos showing measurement between snap rings of other coil overs against lift achieved from one ring to the next.

 

Im all stock with no plans to add weight. It’s a DD, so focus is on road performance first. Link below was what leads me to question how a 3rd gen got 3.5” out of this shock at top ring with OEM coil. You have to filter through 3 pages, but it’s pretty clear…

Unless someone convinces me, I’ll install on the middle ring and hope for 1.5-1.75” with OEM coil. If I get only 1” then I will admit mental defeat and R/R on the top ring.

 

The distance between the snap ring settings doesn’t translate to linear lift increase, it’s progressive. Unless it’s an extended travel shock it will most likely mirror both Bilstein 5100s and Eibach snap ring shocks. The Fox snap ring shocks are offered for 2005-2015 and 2016-current Tacomas with a different part number, but identical in every way. Both are somehow marketed as 0-2” of lift.

Historically, the lift numbers offered by the manufacturers are based on 2nd gen Tacoma spring rates and not at all specific to the 3rd gen, which are about 100lb higher in spring rate from the factory. This is why we see 3rd gen owners gaining upwards of 3.5” of lift on the top setting, which is extremely excessive and not as advertised.

With that said, a 3rd gen spring on the middle clip will most likely yield 2-2.5” of lift.

Front: Fox 2.0 snap ring using stock coil springs
Rear Shocks: Fox 2.0 with Reservoir without adjuster
Rear: Headstrong add a leaf
Wheels: 4Runner TRD PRO Matte Black Wheels PTR20-35110-BK
Tires: Toyo Open Country A/T III 285
Size: 285/70r17 (only rub when goes up drive way when wheels turn with some speed)

Fox 2.0 set at middle clip which gain approximately 2" of lift, here is the numbers before and after:

Before After
FD: 20 1/2" 22 1/2"
FP: 20 3/4" 22 3/4"
RD: 21 3/4" 23"
RP: 22 1/4" 24"

I’ve verified my part number against the Fox catalog and website. Feeling more confident OEM coil on the middle ring will yield what I’m after. I will report back with my results after install.

 

Lift is on and results are in. Installed Fox 2.0 on the MIDDLE Snap Ring and got 2” up front. @FloTaco called it and @Legionaire confirmed it.
**Top Snap Ring would have yielded unexpected 3.75”+

AFTER Measurements:
Front Driver: 22.75” - 37” (with 3/8” Wheelers spacer)
Front Pass: 22.75” - 37”
Rear Driver: 23.5” - 38”
Rear Pass: 23.5” - 38”

I’m striving for contentment… but wheels and tires are likely.

 

2 week update:
No settling, still at 2” of lift.
Honest feedback: thinking I should have paid up for Fox 2.5 or stuck with Bilstein 6112/5160.
The ride is firm, not too bumpy… but it is a truck. It’s not so bad that I will make any changes, but hoping it smooths out with more miles.
CV angles don’t look too bad.
I measured droop at 2.25” on each side. This is this biggest problem I have with this shock. At top ring, there would be @ .5” of droop.

**I reported findings to Fox Senior Sales. I’ve been told they were passed onto the engineering team. It’s difficult to understand how a reputable company like Fox would put out a product that is this so far out of spec against their own advertising & marketing materials. It makes me question if the valving is truly tuned to the Tacoma or if it’s repackaged BS.

In all I’m ok with results against investment, but would RECOMMEND AGAINST this setup until Fox fixes the problem and delivers a true option for 0”, 1” & 2” of actual lift.
