    Hey guys,

First time doing a lift and looking for some advice or thoughts. Looking to get approximately 2" of lift all the way around on a slight budget. After research, I'm thinking of doing Fox 2.0 (Fox 2.0 Performance Series Coilovers & Reservoir Shocks) all the way around with the Icon 1.5" Lift Rear Add-a-Leaf Kit 51100. This will all be bolted on my 2019 Tacoma 4x4 TRD OR short bed. As for tires, I'd like to go 285/75/16, but am curious if I would have to regear the truck or lose a ton of power/MPG. Also, I don't want to have to do any cutting to mitigate rubbing. Open to running 265/75/16, if necessary.

This will likely be used for 90% highway driving with some trails for camping. I have a 100 mile round trip commute for work 5 days a week, so I need the truck's ride to be comfortable and not have my MPG's totally screwed.

Truly appreciate all of your feedback!

I have this set up, I’m installing it Saturday.

shouldn’t have to regear it from what I’ve heard. But you can. I’m going 285/70-17. After I do a body chop.

First mod you should do is buy a nice used Prius to commute in. 500 miles per week. Sweet Jesus.

your MPG’s will dive with 285’s. Realistically between 16-18. A Prius will get 51 mpg easy. That’s monthly fuel difference of $260 at $3 per gallon.

I did the commuter car thing and hated it. I love to drive, I don’t collect things, or buy expensive things for myself so I spoil myself with the car. I’m fine spending the money on gas, but don’t want to be in the 14mpg territory.

I have a '19 DCSB. I recently installed Fox 2.0 coilovers in the front. I only got about a 1/2" lift from those. I wanted 1.5"-2".

I also have the Fox 2.0 rears with reservoirs, but have NOT installed them yet. I was planning on adding a toytec add a leaf (1.5-2). I also wanted to run 285's.

Right now, it "looks" pretty even so I don't want it to be too high in the rear. Actually, the rear is about 1/2" lower right now.

However, I am concerned that I only got a 1/2 lift from the Fox 2.0 coilovers in the front. Now, I am questioning what to do. If I should install the rear setup or not. Or.. wtf.. lol. Any ideas or suggestions? How can I get another 1" or 1.5" in the front?

The Fox 2.0's only give you a max 2" of lift.

The 2.5's will get you a max 2 and 3" of lift.

The 3" lift set up requires an Aftermarket UCA where the 2" max set up does not

Is there something special that needs to be done with these Fox 2.0's considering I got 1/2" of lift with mine?

Are you completely maxed out or did you just install them right out of the box? Can you post a picture of how much thread you have left?

I installed them (or my friend did) right out of the box. I can get a picture to attach.

for you, since you say you love to drive, i strongly suggest UCAs with your lift. it will improve the drive a lot. more than merely dealing with fitment issues. shoot for more than 3 degrees caster and definitely not less.

I just got off the phone with Fox. And asked him a few questions and what he told me was he doesn’t or can’t recommend raising it but for every 1/4 inch you raise the spring will give you 1/2” of lift or lower it. He said he’s definitely doable but it will give you a different ride and not how they designed and tested. But it can definitely be done so I can get 3 inches at a 2.0’s but my ride will sacrifice

i believe Accutune told me the same. you can do stuff outside of their design such as revalving, but it doesn't respond the way shocks designed to tune do. both Accutune & Fox told me that revalving my TRD shocks would likely lead to an excessively firm ride, because they can't be dialed in so effectively.

For the amount of time you will be driving this truck, and the passion you have for driving, I would strongly suggest getting 2.5 coilovers in front instead of the 2.0 coilovers. Tuned properly, they can ride amazing, especially for long commutes. The size and remote reservoir have much more to do with the dampening characteristics than "heat dissipation". Worth the extra $ if you can swing it. If you stay under 2" lift, you can get away with no upper control arm. Can upgrade later down the road if needed.

How do you "raise the spring"? If it is something a simple as "turning" it or something? If so, that would seem to be part of the design.... no?

Technically you are raising the vehicle by tightening, or lowering the preload nut on the coilover.

We have some Great Tech Articles that may help answer some detailed questions HERE if interested.

Those are adjusted from the bottom, not the top.

Measure from the center of the lower shock bolt, to the top of the top hat. From there we can make a suggestion on how much taller you can go.

For reference, that IFP coilover is rated to 0-2" of lift.
    Collapsed length is: 17.60"
    Extended Length is: 22.225"
