Fox 2.5 Front coil over springs; weight up front

    How many here have Fox 2.5s up front and say, a steel bumper and winch?

    Trying to figure out if I need to swap out my springs more based on experience vs calling Fox.

    List your motor and whether you're 4x4 or 4x2 (not having a diff makes a difference up front).

    But it's just about spring weights. The color of the shock doesn't matter too much, lol.

    I don't have a ton of time on my truck since I added the bumper/winch, but my original coils (600# iirc) seem to do okay, but my ride height is also lowered to match the rear.

    Once I get my rear leafs dialed in, I'll reassess if I can just crank the preload up a bit or go with bigger springs.

    Been meaning to message you; I pulled the trigger on the ARB bumper literally a few hours before you messaged me :rofl:

    I just wanted to know what people are normally running on 2.5 coil overs with a steel bumper and winch with steel line.

    I bought a Warn VR8 just a week ago.

    Shock manufacturer is irrelevant when’s discussing spring rates. Unless you’re talking the shitty springs King uses. Then it matters. :stirthepot:

    What’s your truck? Looks like a 2wd 1st gen. I’d stick with 600# springs. May have to add a little preload but I wouldn’t go up in spring rate

    I guess what I meant was, its been off my mind to call or look up what spring rate Fox 2.5 come with and if people are running them with armor and winch up front.

    They come with a 13”x 600# Eibach spring.

    On my Double cab when I had a plate bumper with winch I tried to run 13" 600# springs, but they took excessive preload to get a decent ride height, and would bottom out way too easily, even in daily driving.

    Swapped to 14" 700# and they worked good, a bit stiff, but they handled the extra weight and managed body roll well.

    Now I've built a lightweight tube bumper that doesn't have the winch hardmounted to it, and the 700's are too stiff. I'm thinking the 600s will still not cut it, so I'm planning on buying 14" 650's eventually.

    Are you 4wd or 2?

    My buddy has a 4x fully loaded up with armor and we still think the 14”x700 are too stiff. Going to try a 14”x650 and see how that does. He’s 4x, V6, and full steel armor/skids.

    Same situation. I think 700s are too much. Going to try 650s.

    For the OP, I would try the 600s. Maybe even 550s and go from there.

    Yeah according to another member here they're already rated at 600lbs.

    I definitely need some weight as today I almost had an unfortunate spill while off road; few pointed out how little my front end gives.

    14" 650 is what I use in my 97 4runner. Fully armored and my rig sits at 5004 lbs fully loaded with my ass in the driver's seat. With this setup I get 2" of lift with minimal preload and it rides great both on and off road. The only time it gets squirrelly is going long travel fast on a mid travel set up.

    Yeah, a 700# is too stiff for a 2nd gen fully loaded so I wouldn’t go that high for a 1st gen. 650s at max. Im not against a little preload if I get the ride quality I’m looking for.

    For What it is worth I have the Stock Front replacements from Monroe.

    My Smitty Built Bumper sits forward more then most because I was in a hurry and did not really care function more then looks .

    The Winch does not live on the truck the times it is on I can`t feel much difference Then I am used to 800 or more pounds in the bed.

    Job sites and my drive way is about as much off road it sees .

    I don`t drive it a Celica or a Supra
