I have a thread in the swap shop section for trading my Fox 2.5 shocks (front and rear) for a different lift kit. I never off-road and thread explains reason for trade...
The shocks are at Fox now as I was going to rebuild...but the cost is now $730 instead of the $400 I originally....part of reason is they needed new knuckles and parts, not a big deal...
I NEVER off-road and am just trying to get a few inches of lift. Fox is telling me that these are $2700 shocks new and that they are definitely worth rebuilding.
But my question is can anyone tell difference of the military build? They said they were built heavier and more “robust”. I am new to all of this.
I don’t want a really harsh ride, so any advice is appreciated!

They are worth rebuilding for sure. Besides king shocks, you're not gonna find anything close to ride. Mil spec is gonna ride way rougher. Anything milspec isnt street offroad smooth much less street. Cant say I've ever seen a "milspec" suspension setup. Probably king or fox shocks if it was my guess. If you wanted to go just lift and decent ride on the street, cant go wrong with bilstien 5100s and sell the fox.

I would assume "mil-spec" might be in reference to the load capacity for up armored and heavily loaded Tacoma's and Hilux's used by the military (not to mention the Navistar SOTV-B)? Actual mil-spec suspension is going to be overkill on anything but the most overloaded off-road builds and probably awful to drive on without the extra weight.

Or is it "mil-spec" just for bragging rights?
