Fox Coilover Rebuild How-To?

    I'm in the same boat as you. Looking all over forums and youtube for a step by step on how to rebuild my foxie 2.5s with resis. I've even contacted fox direct. They didn't respond to my first emails and later said they don't supply any media or guide on rebuilding/how to. What a pain!


    I've slowly acquired some tools/supplies to do the rebuild.


    -SPC spring compressor

    -Fox shock oil

    -Rebuild seal kit

    -Spherical bearings for the LCA mount

    -Nitrogen fill tool ( built it myself thanks to tacomaworld.com :) )

    -Spanner wrench with dowel spanner for removing end caps

    -650# 14" springs to swap the 600# 13" that came from factory..

    -Soft jaws for the shafts to mount in a vice.

    Until I tear them down I'm sure I'll need some more stuff to get this done proper(IFP depth tool, o-ring pic etc..) but that will have to wait till I have the time and info.

    To get to the point, I'm wondering if you've pursued this rebuild any further yourself, or been able to come across any more guides? If not, I can help you get to the point where I'm at, and let you know if I find anything to help.

    Where are you located? Don't use that spring compressor on a 600# spring. I don't even know you and like you enough to want you to continue living.

    My understanding was that for every inch that you were to compress the 600# spring it would require 600#s of force. So, if I were to compress it 3 inches that would require a force of 1800#s. The spc spring compressor is rated for 2400#s plus 3x safety factor, so I believe I should be safe. I've since used it to back off one of the coilovers so the adjustment ring is topped out. The compressor didn't seem like it was being forced by any means. I hope I'm not being naive. I made sure to be out of the line of fire if it was to let go.. Although I know with that kind of pressure shit can fly and ricochet. Just mitigating my chances of death as much as possible haha

    It's unbelievable that this is the most informative thread on the internet for removing the springs from a Fox or ICON coil over. Disappointed in the results, to say the least. A $235 spring compressor is not happening for me. I used those shitty rental compressors from Autozone for years with my Jeeps...but now I'm scared as hell to try it on the Tacoma.

    Will accutune rebuild Fox and ICON C/Os and shocks?

    I was cautious using the spc spring compressor, but never scared it would fail. Worth the money if you want to swap coils/ rebuild yourself.
    If you do the rebuild yourself, be prepared for downtime.. My wiper seal caps were so corroded on to the shock body I needed to use a pipe wrench. That essentially destroyed them. So I had to order new ones. I also chose to replace the IFP with custom machined ones from kartek.
    Kartek was really great to deal with. Super knowledgeable, and quick to ship.
