so i just adjusted my fox coilovers and they ride like shit. i dont know if anyone else has had this problem. idk if something is wrong or what but i thought fox would have had a lot better riding shocks especially for how much they cost. has anyone else had this problem?? any input would be helpful. hope i didnt just make an expensive mistake

Are they brand new? If so run over some speed bumps or something similar, this will help break them in and ride better. I did it with my kings when I got them and it helped.

What did you adjust the preload to?

You should be more specific as to the way you adjusted your coilovers (Specs, Ride Height, etc.). With that being said mine are more stiff but offroad they ride like a Cadillac. Also mine were shipped to me with low nitrogen and possibly low oil level from the factory which is why I need a rebuild when my truck gets to the mainland here shortly. Look in to other similar setups which always helps.

If you look at my pics in my profile it should give you an Idea of what the pre load should look like for a dbl cab 4x4 with no added weight in the rear. I'm setup at 2 3/4" lift. I do know that these shocks run very well adjusted at the higher setting but it will effect your usable droop.

Generic valving, preload to get lift, new 600 lbs coils, and 20" rims with skinnys, this all equates to a stiff ass ride.

    ...too much shit to list.
The "ride" is completely dependent on spring rate, valving, and weight of the truck.

    What valving did you get?
    What spring rate?
    How much preload?
What weight do you carry (plate bumpers/armor/prerunner or 4x4/etc etc etc).

I'm curious of what steps op took to remedy his overly stiff ride.. I'm experiencing a rougher than anticipated ride with my foxes too.
    Fox 2.5 resis, extended @3"
    SPC UCA
    33" type E tires @28 psi
Only armor I have is some sliders
I've seen others opting for a longer 14" 600# spring, and read removal of the sway bar helps.
Just bought some white line lca bushings. Will report if they make any changes as well

E rated tires will make for a harsh street ride no matter how good your suspension is. Hit up a trail and drop the PSI to 12 or 15 and see how much better it is, if it's still too stiff then you might want to look at revalving your coilovers or maybe changing the spring rating if it's too high for your setup.

I appreciate the recommendations. I do air down on trails. Normally 15 psi. I like to speed on straighter stretches; airing down more than that makes me nervous!
That said running stiffer tires, I like the insurance of the tougher e load, makes it worth the tradeoff.. when it comes time to rebuild the foxes I'll look into a revalve.

600 is pretty light for a 2nd gen so it must not be the springs. I have 600# springs on my 1st gen.

I'm no expert on shock science by any means but maybe a revalve would help. Do you have them adjusted for a lot of lift? Preload will stiffen the ride considerably especially anything over 2 inches.

Originally set the coilovers to 23" hub to fender for 3" of lift.
Thought that was my issue: too much preload or top-out happening.. I've dropped them down to 22" now and got a proper alignment.. seems a lil smoother.. maybe I was expecting too much from these foxes!! So many people here reference that "Cadillac feel" and " feels like I'm driving on clouds or pillows" Haha kinda set the expectation bar really high!!

replaced everything except my lower ball joints. They seemed alright but I do hear and feel clunks over curbs and speed bumps. Just thought it was my steering rack after hearing they tend to be sloppy from a few other tacomaholics.

This truck has massacred my bank account. It is fun to work on, but frustrating sometimes too. I'm learning alot so that's another silver lining

Sounds like you need to get them re-valved to your liking, I'm in the same boat and I think it's a common one...I bought Kings and after I installed them and went for a test drive, I was like WTF did I spend all that money on? These are stiffer than the OME kit I had on before. Lessening the preload helped a lot but I still think they could be better.

There's no one setup that works for everyone and everyone's truck is different when you factor in all the mods and stuff we do. Best thing you can do I think is to get them re-valved and let the person doing it know what you're looking for.
