anyone here went from TRD Fox Pro kit to a full Fox 2.5 resi kit?

i have a pro with heavy E tires and the TRD shocks are not effective enough to handle high speed road vibrations from highway driving. i like the Fox stuff but need more dampening and also adjustability. I'm looking at the Fox 2.5's first to compare, so I'm asking if anyone has run both.

Unfortunately your truck will never feel good with E-rated tires even with 2.5s. Running a lower pressure will help greatly - go try 30 psi and see how much better it feels. I am on Fox 2.5s with @AccuTune Offroad latest tune and it helped greatly when I had e-rated 255/85s, but had enough of the rough ride and bought c-rated tires and it’s soooooo much better. Still a little stiff if I run 40 psi, but perfect if I run 32 in the front and 30 in the rear.
Seriously, go try 30 psi before you buy shocks and feel like you wasted your money. E-rated tires will never feel good on our trucks unless you run them low.

appreciate this reply, but you misunderstood my question. my truck feels amazing with E tires. in fact, i have the most extreme E tires around here in terms of carcass firmness and lack of compliance. i am a serious driving enthusiast and have setup my truck somewhat like a kart in reverse (front engine) regarding handling. E tires in a 30" size are much MUCH firmer even than E tires in 31". they will bumpsteer you to hell & back if you don't know how to drive with bumpsteer, which is an open wheel and kart driving style.

anyway, I'm simply looking to improve the dampening of small fast movement like you experience above 70 on the highway, that is all.

    i run 29F and 28R psi warm.

Shocks are not your issue. The technology in the TRD shocks is different from the standard 2.5". You would get more road feedback from the aftermarket shocks. Unfortunately, I agree with @go2cnavy on this. But you know more so good luck!

what? I'm talking about dampening. that's shocks bro.

is anyone able to compare dampening between Fox 2.0 and 2.5? a subjective comparison between the two regarding quick dampening like on road at highway speed? simple question if anyone had actually run both. the TRD kit is not strong enough to deal with E tire weight with my setup i want to know if 2.5's are more effective.

That feedback will give you better handling & better bottom out resistance, especially if they are tuned.

my c-rated 275s are heavier than my e-rated 255s and the Fox 2.5 set up handles the weight fine plus the additional weight of all my armor and I’m on 600lb 14” springs.

I get what you’re saying about feeling like it’s the unsprung weight that is overpowering the damping of your current setup. What I’m telling you is I thought the Fox 2.5s were having the same problem with my e-rated 255s. After talking with Ryan at @AccuTune Offroad , I followed his recommendation of swapping tires and all of my complaints went away.
My post is not meant to criticize your thought process, it’s merely to provide real world feedback from a nearly identical situation to save you some coin.
    good luck man.

    appreciate that.

if Fox can't dampen this then I'm leaving Fox behind and it's exactly why I'm here asking. i like the Fox bits but my E tires are the jewels of my truck's setup and i won't have C or SL tires on my truck, no way.

really, thanks for the quality reply.

I’m confident that they can be damped. Especially if you are referring to what feels liked under damped oscillation, almost like your blowing through the stroke on the rebound circuit. Adding extra rebound damping and a 650 lb 14” spring may be your best bet. If you have the extra cash, a fox setup with an internal bypass circuit would be killer.

What are you center of hub to fender measurements in the front? Since ground to fender is harder to compare due to tire size, curious to what your center of hub to fender measurements are. I'm similar to you in that I'm debating on adjusting my front up another inch and a half, as I barely fit my 275's with 3.5 degrees of caster and when I installed my 1.25" spacers, could not drive it due to rubbing. That said; my rake isn't too bad (HD Dakar lift) so am tempted to just leave it as is.

Hey guys. I’m getting some 2.0’s for free (non resi) and am wondering if you can put a 700lb coil on a 2.0? I know for the 2.5 you can run the eibach 700lb 14”, but not sure if you can do that on the 2.0.

currently have some clapped out OME with the heavy coils (886’s). I will be getting the 2.0’s rebuilt which will be getting me a practically new pair of front shocks for half price.

    any help is appreciated!

You don't have to have the top mounting nut so tight. There's a measurement in the installation manual. Back that thing off a little.

the Fox Install Booklet said 5/8" shaft showing...seems way too snug to me also.
Did I misinterpret the install instructions?

I think mine are right around there. I just made sure the shock body doesn’t turn anymore.

was able to find the answer in case anyone is in need.

fox 2.0 shocks require a 2.5” ID coil. Where the 2.5 shocks require a 3” ID coil

HOWEVER the fox 2.0’s for the tacoma utilize a 3” ID. @Downsouth Motorsports knows what’s up!
