I have a 2013 Mexican Built (Baja Norte) Tacoma sport 4x4. I live in Southern Baja and I wanted to upgrade from the factory shocks to the something better. I went with FOX 2.0
Coilover front shocks and rear shocks. This was for my around town truck, not doing any prerunning or off-roading, just wanted a tight suspension for all of the bumpy roads where I live. I've had to rebuild the front drivers side shock, it started pissing oil after two months (I paid for a rebuild kit and had that done here) and now the top pin on the rear shock literally severed off on my way to taking my wife to yoga class (see videos below.) Now Fox wants me to send the shock all the way from Baja Sur to Baxter Minnesota, so they can review it and determine if it’s a fabrication issue. I have to pay shipping both ways on this. Or I can pay for another rebuild kit and rebuild this shit product. I’m fucking over it.

Bilstein 4600, 5100 (both bad ride) and 6112/5160 (better ride) are similar price and don’t break as much if at all

Here for videos of your wife in yoga class

Jokes aside, give Icon 2.0s a go. I ran a set for 6 years with zero maintenance with no issues:

Hahaha! Thank bro! Ive seen quite a few people running that system here. I might pull the FOX kit off, sell it and get the ICONs. It pisses me off that I spent good money on what I was told was a high end product. I live in a place where its really hard to get things and then when they fail you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Its going to cost me around 300 dollars in shipping alone!

If you are not seriously off roading expensive Fox or ICON coil overs are a waste, an expensive waste. You’d be better off with a quality set of Bilstein 4600’s or 5100’s. They will tame bumpy roads and you’ll get 50,000 to 100,000 trouble free miles out of them. I have 4600’s on my 4x4 Taco and drive lots of back country roads, rutted logging roads and 4x4 trails (no rock crawling) and my Bilsteins work just great.

Least expensive option is to just replace the rear shocks, since they are the only ones currently broken.

Thanks for posting. Shopping for shocks and don’t want to buy Fox if this is the service they offer to customers.

Could be from overtightening the top nut. Looks pretty far down on the stud. Some companies give a torque spec, some companies say to measure the threads showing, to obtain proper torque. Not blaming you OP, but could be from improper installation.

I always though FOX was an apparel brand that occasionally made suspension not the other way around

or just get better riding 6112/5160 with reservoir, better ride, thicker front shock, since 4600 and 5100 both ride like shit and in the world of shocks are bottom of the barrel bare minimum lowest cheapest starting point

not really worth it to take the financial loss of putting them on, seeing how bad they ride, doing the labor of taking them off again, selling used for half price, to do the job over again instead of doing it right the first time

anything better than that is a different story. Like Fox 2.5 coilovers. Different budget.

they make good shocks. And supply OEM. OP simply bought 2.0’s which suck and are thin; which most people know
Like if you look at a picture compared to Bilstein they are much thinner despite costing more

Damn that sucks! I have dealt with fox, but only in racing applications. I would neve got to oem replacement fox. I’m actually shopping and the first thing that come to my mind is bilstein! Saludos desde el norte!

That’s just your personal opinion which few others share based on other posts concerning shocks. My “experience “ tells me that 4600’s and 5100’s are just fine for most applications and I think the vast majority of Taco owners would concur. I’ve had numerous 4x4 trucks and I can say unequivocally that my truck with the 4600’s does not ride like shit on or off road.

I’ve had Fox 2.0 shocks on my truck for a little over 2 years now with absolutely no issues. I don’t do any hardcore wheeling but my truck sees plenty of corn and bean fields during deer season.
