We get this question A LOT, so we used a Tacoma front coilover as the example. Seems fitting for this forum :D

Fox 2.5 Coilover, Remote Reservoir 0-3” Extended length with DSC (FOX-880-06-418)
King 2.5 Coilover, Remote Reservoir 0-3” Extended length with Adjuster (KRS-25001-119A-EXT)

Damn, I thought this was an actual question when I read the title. I was going to refer this article of yours.
I see now that you don’t need any help choosing.

By the way, Fox for the win!

Thanks for the comparison. I've been trying to decide between these for too long now and was leaning towards Fox but now I have 2 important questions.
    1. Does the Fox actually have less usable wheel travel compared to King? The King has more shock travel and this seems like it has to directly influence wheel travel.
    2. Is the Fox coil changed as part of the tuning based on the vehicle weight? Or is there a still an additional charge for a heavier spring if needed?

    1. Yes, the Fox Coilovers in this example are slightly shorter at full extension than the Kings. Not by much, but yes that would allow for a slightly taller lift in front.
    2. The spring rates in that article are standard from Fox and King. We can swap a 650 or 700 on the Kings at no additional charge. Fox would need to be purchased. When you purchase with us, we will install the spring before shipping them out. Of course we would run some numbers to make sure you even need the heavier rate spring.

King? Fox? Why not both for the win!

You deserve a nice ride on some Kox.

Great read. I would love to know how the Bilstein 8112s stack up against these.

Took me a minute! That's sweet custom valving on the DSC's too I would assume?

Never knew you could do that!

Customer already had the King Coilovers, and instead of adding King adjusters, they went with the Fox DSC. I dont believe we valved the DSC on these ones.

    Stuff and junk and things...
I've added DSC's to a few kings, great combo and you usually don't need to revalve the DSC it's self.

This upgrade would be replacement of the entire reservoir, not swapping the adjuster units themselves correct?

    @AccuTune Offroad

have you guys re-valved/customized any ADS shocks yet? They definitely deserve a seat at the table. The build quality seems close to being overbuilt compared to King and Fox. Just wondering how they stack up in your opinion

I’ve ran and rebuilt fox, king , icon , sway-a-way and rad-flow shocks. Always liked fox the most for a few of the reasons mentioned in that article. For me fox was the best “value” . You get a little extra quality for seals , shafts , higher psi hoses (back in the day) fittings for near the same price . Fox also used duel locking rings for the top of the coil spring (not like the single ring with an allen bolt
Pressing against the threads or a clamping ring). Fox also used a low profile lower spring perch not a big bulky hard to clear one like king. Also easier to slide off the coil spring with a low profile perch. Fox had some of the longest resi cans as well, more oil (so did bilstein 9100s). Their resi cans were also machined and not just a smooth can like king. I’m speaking about universal coil overs , but I never knew why people preferred king so much when you can see how they used cheaper parts or just spent less time on details (even the lower shock mount had less machined steps in the king version so it looked crude) . This was for their pre runner series shocks and not their “race series” of course, but the price points for prerunner series were close to fox standard shocks .
Idk , if you work on shocks a lot you see these details and just turn into a snob lol.

also fox makes shocks for all my mtn bikes so... gotta keep it consistent

Edit *. The worst part about icon is their odd 7/16” ID valving shims ! Who the hell uses that crap?. Cant buy them anywhere easily. I think everyone else is normal and just uses 1/2” ID shims so you can find them for pennies.

King doesn’t have 1/2” ID valve shims either. Theirs are like a 5/8” or something close.
