If everything for a factor is the same, absolutely chum it up as luck. But if you change a factor and withing months folks are going through multiple oem windshields, it tends to lean more towards quality control of a product.

That's may take on it. I'll see myself out and let the fleet of engineers give their piece on why it's all coincidental.

For the record I don't think all new windshields suck. I just think there are more lesser quality ones sneaking out the door. What's the auto industry going to do? Adjust their quality based on real world feedback?

I'm guessing their engineers will say "hey, just bad luck. Don't follow so close"

I'm on my 4th windshield in just over 3 years.... the first one was cracked within a couple of months of ownership. it's brittle glass, and the smallest of road debris will break it. for now, my insurance has been pretty good about covering it with OEM glass but the next time it happens I'll be looking at what aftermarket options may be more durable...

    I build gov't jet engines.

I still stand by my statement.

It's the control from acquiring materials, mfg, to shipping. The factors and quality are all controlled by the customer. But who knows how diligent they really are.

I live in Santa Fe and damaged windshields are a dime a dozen here just like AZ. I purchased "Diamond Fusion" through the dealer for about $3/month extra. While I think diamond fusion is a total scam the dealer will replace the windshield at no cost to me for 7 years. Additionally i chipped the windshield after 200miles

    Haha I don't blame you.

Few are the serious ones. So they've got to be pretty spot on. But with certain thing, even if it's a 1:3 check, one with an issue might fall through. Then it's a scramble to take corrective action and a giant puzzle if it's resolved 100% of the escapes..

I've worked for other strict companies who 99% of their stuff was space x quality. They still had one job with stacking tolerances and wouldn't fix it. Haha. Just the way the real world is.

I understand the paper side of things when it comes to mfg product. I'm just speaking to the real world application.

I just had the windshield replaced on my 2020 Taco with 1,600 miles on the odometer. Had a rock hit the upper passenger side while coming back from Show Low and within a few days it had turned into an 18" crack. I previously drove an Accord for five years and never had any issues with the Honda glass.

@johntoyota and I talked about this a while back. We think it's just cheap glass. We both have a crap ton of little chips on our windshields that looks like you are about to go into light speed in Star Wars.

I also have a larger chip in mine, got it filled by Safelight, but it makes a lot of noise when ever there are temperature fluctuations

My chip finally turned into a full blown side to side crack. Not going to fix it though until late spring.

My 17 had some small pitting here and there and a decent chip that happened days after getting all the glass tinted.
Geico had safelite come out to fix it, just did the glue to keep it from spreading.

This is my first Toyota, it definitely seems like the glass is weaker or angled different and more susceptible than the Nissan or dodges I’ve had.
I believe the brand is pilkington, which is supposed to be good.

My 2011 had like 5000 miles before my first rock chip. Then got another not long after RIGHT in my field of view. Oh well. Drove it for a couple of years and one snowy day watched the thing split all the way from A post to A post. Strangest sound you've ever heard in your life.

Got a brand new windshield and THE NEXT DAY I'm driving north on a 2 lane rd, a dump truck is driving south. I watched a rock fly out of the rear tandems and BOOM.... rock chip. Right in my field of view again.

Had to replace my 17's front windshield twice in 2 months. Was less than pleased to say the least.

When I got quoted for a new windshield, USAA at the time wouldn't pay for an OEM one with the GoPro mount and what not. Only a basic aftermarket one.

I've got Geico now so I'm not sure what they would say.

I also had one section of my rear glass blow up like a grenade on the trail one day.

The two on my 2011 were.

Here's one on my 2017 on the passenger side. It's a little down from the Gopro mount.

The last one is harder to see cause it's raining. It's kinda middle right.
