Mine are very similar in size and shape. A divot-chip in the glass about the size of my pinky fingernail. with one or more small, radiating cracks. Not repairable.

I ended up having Owen from "Perfect Touch Auto Glass" replace mine and they did an awesome job. The new windshield is straight from the dealer (Pilkington with the Toyota logo).

Thanks! I'll definitely give them a call when I'm ready for a replacement. Appreciate the info.

Hmmmmm, I'm gonna grab about 50 phone screen protectors and go at it!

Seriously though, depending on price, I see more value in this application than on a phone, which I have never used.

BTW, I have two chips in my 2017 windshield for quite a while. The first one is said to be too small to fill, but I see it often right in front of me. It has not grown in the least. Also, I got a bad chip November 2018. I thought that it would have required replacement, but the shop was able to fill it. It looked great for a day, then spidered only within the size of the chip. The shop said that there was nothing more they could do. Thankfully, it has stayed contained and is toward the far right side.

The problem is that you are not following the car in front of you close enough. You have to close that gap up tight so nothing can fly up in front of you.(--A JOKE!, i am joking here people) I know that some people will not condone this behavior but I really can't wait to get out of this truck, not a fan of the Gen3.(another joke!) That being said, my 2015 windshield took a chip and cracked immediately about two weeks after delivery, my 2018 windshield has about 20K on it and no chips yet.(touch wood) My wife's 2019 4runner chipped, was repaired, and still cracked all the way across. She is pretty good about staying back from the vehicle in front of her though...

Mine cracked about 4 months into ownership, but the replacement glass is much better. It has had several hits that I knew were solid, but no chip or nothing. the first windshield was terrible. I live in AZ as well, and right near I 10 and the Santan 202 freeway, which is notorious for being shitty and rocks spray all over. My wife's pilot has had 4 in the last year replaced. This one we are waiting until chip number 6 to replace because it is just such a pain in the ass to do.

If every 2019 tacoma owner flipped a coin 10 times, somewhere around 250 of them would get heads every time. You got unlucky.

And I highly doubt the windshield would be something any auto manufacturer is skimping on. It's a safety issue for one, and two they aren't making the windshield. I highly doubt pilkington would risk losing toyota letting subpar windshields through(and possibly other manufacturers if news broke), OR toyota is sneakily asking them to lower quality standards for a price break.

As for "hearing" hits on an aftermarket windshield that definitely would have broken OEM, there are just way too many variables. Angle it hit the windshield, material of the rock, where on the windshield it hit, etc. Throw a chunk of sandstone at your windshield full speed and it will probably bounce off. Crush the ceramic off a spark plug and lightly toss it and see what happens.

I swear I cracked my windshield when I adjusted the rearview mirror. uuughhh. When I took it in to get replaced the shop said there was a tiny chip where the crack started but I think they were trying to make me feel better because I had checked for chips before taking it in and didnt find a thing.

Got a Fuyao replacement for $350 installed after not being able to get a reasonable quote for a Pilkington, and I didnt have to get TSS recalibrated.

Before getting the glass replaced, I had called a couple dealerships for quotes on TSS recalibration and one quoted $380 and another was for $250 so if you need need it recalibrated check around first.

lol, I’m not saying the glass isn’t cheap, I’m asking how close he drives. Replace it with more Toyota glass, guess what happens?

Read my follow-up posts. I don't drive to closely, and I'm doing the EXACT same workday commute that I did in my 2018, which is where I'm getting the hits.

For what it’s worth I shake then pour Rain X on the windshield and while wearing an Anal Zone rubber glove I spread it around until it dries on the glass and let sit for a bit. Then with a slightly damp micro fiber lightly wipe the glass followed immediately lightly buff dry with a clean micro fiber. Then don’t get it wet for 12 hours to allow to cure. I like to think stones and dirt won’t stick and damage the glass so much. So far so good.

No idea then. Maybe it’s dumb luck. I went 20 years without having to get a tire repaired, then in one year, I had to do it 5 times. Then, shortly after, I got brand new tires on the car and ran over a bolt on the way home, making it 6. My drive has been the same for the last 10 years. I get the frustration
