And this is why I buy the cheapest aftermarket glass lol. People think the expensive oem glass is stronger. fake news.

unless you have a land rover then its true.

Tesla has come up with a solution to this age old problem that the replacement windshield glass industry is going to hate and it’s called Armor Glass. It will be installed as the standard windshield on the soon to be released Semi tractor and is aimed at reducing downtime for truckers. It’s Tesla’s version of ALON, also know as transparent aluminum. The demos are pretty amazing...

I guess I don't understand your question. There are tons of guys who have gone through 2-3 OEM glasses on here within a year who previously never had issues with glass.

hahah!! Tons?!?!? Wow!! Must mean something. Read my post to the OP. It may mean something for sure. Or just stupid luck, unless Michelin has just started producing magnetic tires

Unless people buy new vehicles and just decide after they buy to start tail gating, I don't think that's it considering most people don't have issues before they crack windshields on their new trucks. Thus the concern usually.

Either way. I'll see myself out of here.

As I said earlier, my insurance no longer allows for 100% coverage on windshield repairs because they were doing so many. Newer windshields are, in fact, thinner to reduce weight.

Edit: I should also point out my driving style. I live 15 miles north of Wichita and commute on I-135, as does my wife. But it's a primarily rural area with lots of road debris (sand from gravel roads and winter sand/salt treatment) and 75mph speed limits. Something flying through the air is going to get smacked hard. She's lost 3 windshields and I've lost 2.

No problem man! I was pissed having to deal with this so fast as I'm sure you are. They came to my office and did a perfect job. Took my truck to Camelback Toyota that evening for the TSS calibration and Owen / Perfect Touch paid the $250 fee to the service advisor over the phone. Handled all of the insurance crap and I paid nothing. Good luck!

USAA is great! I'm in the valley as well, there is always shit flyin in the air on these freeways. About 10 years ago i had a truck in front of me on the 60, it kicked up some metal rod about 10 inches long, landed right smack in the middle of my windshield and spider webbed the fuck out of it.
Thankfully no issues with my Tacoma so far.
I think once you get this fixed, you might go for quite some time without any hits, its weird like that.

My Tacoma glass is holding up better than my FJ did. At 50k miles, 0 issues with the Taco. 26K miles, my FJ looked like the windscreen from the shuttle in the movie Armageddon.

I have no evidence to support this. I would assume late 2000s just going by history.

I'm a firefighter/paramedic and when we practice vehicle extrication we never get any cars to practice on that are post 2010, so I can't even give anecdotal evidence.

I'm in Scottsdale. Got my truck October 10th of last year, had it two days then got a chip that spread into a crack on the 101. Thank god I had glass coverage but surprise my deductible was 500 dollars. Thought "OK no biggie it was just bad luck." Progressive denied my request to have OEM glass installed, so I took it into Safelite only for them to tell me that they wouldn't be able to install aftermarket glass due to something about the sensors, i don't remember. They didn't have an OEM windshield in stock so I had to wait another week. I go back the next week, get it installed, but then they say because my truck is too new they don't have the recalibration software to correct the sensors, and told me I have to go to the dealer. Fuck. I get to the dealer, get charged $300 for the recalibration (my insurance paid for that I just had to send them the receipt) and go home. Fast forward to 3 weeks later, I'm headed up to Prescott and bam, another chip. Okay at least it's a chip, lets just get it filled, no problem. Got it filled at Safelite again, only to have another chip show up about a week ago. I made the appointment to have THIS chip filled in, but guess what it's now spread into about a 9" crack from the temperature swinging all over the place lately. I've decided I don't care anymore, if I get it replaced again I'm out $500 and it's just gonna break again in a month.

Never had this problem with my 2002 Tundra or 1998 Blazer, drove those for 15 years without ever needing to replace the windshield.

you should check with your insurance about adding the policy for the no deductible glass. USAA, its like 5-6 bucks extra a month. No idea if Progressive is that way.

There are so many factors that cause chips and pitting beyond the glass itself. Vehicle height, windshield angle, hood length, hood angle, time of year, wind, luck, all of it. I've driven the same car for 10 years, have always had factory glass and my first windshield lasted for years, the second one for months. The third one lasted for a good amount of time again. Other cars, same deal. Same type of driving, same car, same glass.

I've been hearing people complain that newer cars have thinner/weaker/cheaper glass for at least the last 15 years, maybe more. But it always seems that the "old" cars that had good glass also keep getting newer as well.
