Did you just cover it up, or did they just pass it?

I took it to a dealer from a "friend Of friend" and he is very generous when they look at vehicles lol. Left it as is and did not touch a thing

Hope for his sake that the vehicle doesn't break in two on the road. His name (and license) is on the line.

So I finally got a call from Toyota saying that my new frame is ready to go, and booked to bring the truck in on Feb. 4th. My frame inspection was August 23rd 2018, so the wait was only about 5 months. the loaner will be a corolla

That's wild but good to hear! My dealer didn't have any loaners but they have an agreement with the hertz next-door. They put me in a Chevy Cruze which didn't really matter since I had my truck back 2 days later.

Hey TacoNS thanks for the response!

I had mine in for inspection last week of November and they said I wont be in until first week of march. Also something strange got brought up to me last week. I had a guy text me about buying the truck but was using some claim that a dealer near him said that it is usually $600-$1000 extra for frame replacement on average here in NS. I am just wondering if he is just trying to get me to think the truck is worth 600-1000 less or he is just blowing smoke. I had never heard of that from all the research I had been doing.... unless something strange breaks while the frame is being replaced which i kinda understand.... but I didnt break it they did lol. Has anyone else heard of this, assuming nothing big goes wrong?

    Thanks

in my opinion, he's just trying to get you to come down on price.. there will be a bit of cost associated with the frame swaps as things will be discovered while the truck is being taken apart and put back together (bushing, balljoints, etc.). i'll update after my swap with how much the whole thing costs me.

He's definitely trying to get the price down. I was worried for my 07 because being from Quebec there's lots of snow and lots of salt exposure over the years.

The dealer I went to didn't try to upsell me on anything and simply asked me at the tail end if I wanted to replace the leaky rear shocks. I agreed and had a total bill of $160. They said afterwards that everything went well and any bolts bushings that broke, they just replaced.

Ok I hope my dealer treats me the same way lol. That is good to hear I don't mind a couple of hundred bucks because I know there are things under the truck that aren't brand new and they break sometimes. When I heard 600-1000 I was thinking gezzz what did I get my self into..... I definitely didn't expect to hear those numbers outside of a routine frame replacement. Also I has a road inspection done a week before the frame failed and there report was to replace front pads (done), hole in frame, and that a 1/2 front bushings would need changed. I know they couldn't get in every spot like when the tear frame off but I using that as a baseline for any issues that could arise.
    Thanks for the response!!

Agreed, definitely budget for additional costs just in case but in reality it sometimes comes down to the dealer's discretion.

Mine told me any parts would be at cost and no additional labor. This was ultimately the cheapest way to do basic maintenance the cheapest way.

Maybe cover your seats with thin covers or blankets as well, when I got mine back there were oil and grease stains in the interior. They were good about it and ended up giving me a free interior detail ($200 value).

Ok yea I figured there would be some costs due to so many parts being removed. Sounds like the guy that’s wants my truck might be somewhat right then. I Am most likely gonna hold on to truck and eat additional costs and not assume his range of 600-1000 is accurate. Might be a bad move but don’t wanna devalue truck close to $1000 potentially on a guess if stuff is gonna be broke. Truck only has 132,000 kms on it so who knows what they will find.

    Thanks

My truck is a 2006 with ~150k kms, and would never consider selling it because of the frame replacement. In my eyes, I'm getting a brand new truck for maybe a couple hundred bucks

Yea would be nice not to, but my job has me travelling a lot more now so potentially gotta downgrade to something that gets better gas mileage for the long roads trips. We will see agree 100% the truck will be almost brand new with a new frame because there isn’t anything wrong with it outside of the frame

I agree with this. At the very least, keep the truck until the frame replacement. If you drop it by $1,000 before that, he'll just end up getting the frame replacement with potentially no issues.

If you get it done, worst case you have to pay a little extra to have some repairs done but then the truck will bring top dollar. Best case, you dont have to spend anything additional and you will still get top dollar.

It's been about a month after my frame replacement and I'm at 213,000km now. All I can say is the truck no longer makes any noises whatsoever. I purposely drive fast over speedbumps and large snowbanks and cant hear a thing. Literally drives like a brand new truck, even at that mileage.

That's good to hear. Did you have vibration or noise issues when you first got the truck back that went away? or was it just good to go? I've read lots of threads on here about people complaining of noise and vibrations

No vibrations whatsoever. I did have a rattle/drone coming from underneath. I took it back thinking is was a loose heatshield or disconnected exhaust hanger. It ended being a worn rubber grommet around the intake tubing. Because it passes through the front fender, it was causing the loud drone against the metal. They ended up sealing the gap and all was good.

I had to take mine back twice because of spongy brakes, grease stains on the interior and the drone. They fixed everything without question and without any charges.

They also seemed very happy to do so.

Yea in the end I am likely gonna keep truck until frame is replaced so that anyone that would have bought it doesn't get surprised by a random repair cost they didnt sign up for. Maybe in the end I can find a way to keep the truck since it will be pretty well new, gotta find a cheap car for work lol!!
