Dropped my truck off at the dealership this morning for the frame replacement. I almost didn't get a loaner because apparently you can't drive loaners or rentals if you're not at least 25 years old. (I'm 24) The manager came out and he was very nice and waived that rule and gave me the car anyway. They said they could have my truck for up to 2 full weeks, so I'm really glad I got the loaner as I have no other vehicle for getting to work

Wow yea that is great that the dealership was good about that!! That would have really sucked if they were up tight and a stickler on the rules

    Another Update on my truck:

Just got off the phone with the dealership doing my frame swap. Toyota Canada says that everything is covered EXCEPT the installation cost for the lower control arms. The parts themselves are covered, but they are charging me 2 hours labor to install them... She couldn't give me a reason why as she was just relaying the message she got from the big wigs. Truck should be ready for pick up on Monday or Tuesday next week, and there was no mention of any additional work being needed outside of what was already planned.

That doesn't seem to make any sense at all. Are you providing aftermarket control arms? If so, I could see them trying to use that as a reason to charge you, but if they are stock, I don't see any reason to charge you labor.

I got my frame replaced a month ago in Ottawa, Ontario and there was no such charge for install.

truck is entirely stock. I am not providing any parts. The new control arms are provided and funded by Toyota. Up until now, I was quite happy with how the whole process was going.

Talk to the general manager that’s crap I had my frame done in November and they didn’t charge me for anything and I got lower control arms, I’d raise a stink about having to pay!

Sent an email to the service manager asking for a full explanation. His response will determine my next move

Service manager called, and said there must have been a miscommunication somewhere because the lower control arm installation is in fact covered by Toyota Canada. The 2 hours labor was to install a new parking brake cable. There was no mention of the parking brake cable during the initial call i received, so the error was on their end. I had no issues with the parking brake when the truck was dropped off to them, so i declined having the cable replaced

WOW! Sounds like they're trying to cover their ass when you called them out for trying to screw you. Good job on standing up to them.

He was absolutely trying to cover his ass. Once I get my truck back, I won't be going to that dealership for anything again.

Got my truck back. Cost me $275. Service Manager was a dick. Everyone should avoid Dartmouth Oregans Toyota, they will do everything they can to separate you from your money.

In the end, what did the $275 cover?

Anything else they were trying to charge you for?

No issues with truck either I hope?

the only work that was performed on the truck is what was part of the class action lawsuit. The best explanation the service manger could give me was that Toyota Canada doesn't cover Coolant. so i payed $275 for coolant. He then had the nerve to ask me why i was complaining about $275 when i just had $20 000 worth of work done on my truck. (i'm willing to bet the actual value of the work is about half of that but whatever)

didn't notice any issues, but only drove it about 5 minutes back to work.

And the Parking Brake cable that i refused to have replaced works perfectly fine.

I cant believe they charged you for Coolant. Sounds like they were trying to milk anything they could.

Take the truck for a few good long drives (highway speeds as well). I noticed some minor things the first few drives and had them fix the problems before taking possession again.

even if i do find something wrong with the truck, i probably won't go back to them to fix. I'm sure they would try to charge me for that too.

Wow that is garbage, I got the sense from dealers around here in Northern NS that parts/price depends on dealer attitude/mindset for the frame replacement. I was told by the guy that I ended up trading my truck with, that dealers told him the average is between $400-$1000. I have heard great things about the Truro Toyota if you are looking for a dealer that garners a good reputation around these neck of the woods. I have also talked to them on the phone and they are by far the best I have dealt with from a dealership and corporate stand point. That seems awful step for just some coolant also. That is to bad they had to take that attitude on something that should be relatively routine. But I guess if that is all that comes from the painful process, all in all not to bad I suppose.

It's whatever at this point, I'm out $275, but I have a rust free 13 year old truck now.

I walked around the truck a little bit ago and realized that one of the rear shocks was replaced too. Don't recall anyone saying anything about that, but can't complain lol

1 of the rear shocks? Who does that? That's like replacing 1 blown out tire when the other 3 are bald.

i'm assuming they broke some part of the shock when pulling the truck apart. Part of the deal is they're supposed to fix or replace anything that breaks. can't see them just replacing 1 out of good will just because it's old and worn out.

Hello. I am new here and my 2005 is due a frame replacement and was ordered by Oregans last year. Still waiting and truck failed MVI here in Dartmouth so cannot drive after april 2020. They are also gouging customers by quoting me $250 for fluids/shop supplies. Did you pay that to Oregans?
