It also had surface rust on other parts but they ordered all new parts underneath. Even my supposed stainless steel hitch ball is rusting. But yes surface rust is surface rust which they would have just spray coated, so honestly glad they found pinholes, as I now have a brand new bones.
Still trying to find a nice grill and bully bar to add some much needed accessories

Holes were created by rust, which started as surface rust.

Ok we get it. I was the one who said I could clearly see surface rust on the frame but left it at that and after the inspection they said all was fine. I'll double check again and if I see any holes and if I do I'll take it back to them. We compared my buddies with a new frame to mine and mine looked horrible...haha but again I didn't look for pin holes.

Toyota stepped up to the plate and covered issues before they had tons of lawsuits on their hands. I give them kuddos for that.

I say peace of mind, I honestly didn't expect to hear that my frame had holes in it, but it makes me feel a lot safer driving my 6 yr old son in my truck knowing it isn't going to get worse, as the new ones come with the coating on them already. Never hurts to get a good inspection. Good luck

You probably have a chrome plated hitch ball and not a stainless hitch ball.

Either way, hit it with grease regularly.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I took my truck to Toyota of Des Moines back on Tuesday. Bottom line- they're putting a new frame on it, which kind of shocked me. Front what I saw I didn't believe it to be in that bad of shape. From what the service advisor explained to me, they basically just put it up on the rack, physically inspect it and hit it with a hammer (not a real high tech testing procedure!) They said that mine was right on the border line. Everyone has been correct according to him, it will take about 3-4 months to get the frame here, as Toyota has to have it specially made with the VIN # of course. He told me that they've done hundreds of these and have it down to a science for the most part. He said they have had it done in as fast as 18 hours before. I told him time was not an issue to me, as I have a company car and don't need this for transportation. I told him I'm more concerned about them taking their time and doing it right. I expressed my concern about everything not going back the way they were. He said they have had some minor issues (stuff not getting plugged back in all the way, tweaks here and there) but gave me his word that they would stand behind their work 100%- something that I will work on getting in writing prior to me dropping off. I will report back in after this is complete to let everyone know what kind of luck I have. Again thanks for the nice responses everyone!

You now know there is rust and if you don't do the maintenance and take care of it its on you. Just sayin.

Yes I understand that. I'm just saying it sucks they wouldn't just replace it. I wasn't banking on having my frame rust through and my truck fall apart on me then suing toyota! They say it's fine so I'll deal with it. Just got my truck back today and haven't had time to look at it again.
