Hey there, I just brought my 2003 Tacoma in for the frame inspection and they wouldn't let me drive it away it was so bad. They gave me a loner car but they also said it might take up to a year to get it all fixed! This seems totally like crazy talk! A loaner car for a year? Seriously? Has anyone else run into this? If there is any little scratch they are going to charge me for it. It seems totally unrealistic! p

It is unrealistic. They won't charge you for a little scratch. And yes, other people have been through this.

Each dealer does things different within the frame warranty.

Depending where you live and how many are ahead of you it might possibly take a year.

I had thought the back log of frames needing done was getting caught up

Problems at the frame vendor supply chain issues who knows.

Might be there saying a year just to cover their butt if there are problems

It is not like you are forced to take the car

Be happy they're even replacing the frame for you. Lots of members got screwed and Toyota won't do anything for them.

I've heard of members getting other newer Tacomas for loaners if they explained to Toyota they need a truck for work.

Best of luck and Welcome to TW.

You might try a search on 'frame recall' and read up on several threads and hundreds of posts.

But yes, you should be grateful that you'll get a frame. Many have not been so fortunate, based on a number of rules in the program.

A loaner for a year is awesome. But of course you should be responsible for it's care, and not let it get beat up. Would you rather use 'Rent-a-heap' and not worry about those things while you pay out of pocket?

They told me in February it would be 5 to 8 months to get a frame in. It was actually only 4 weeks to get the new frame and a week to do the swap (would have been a couple days less, but they had to wait for parts for some other work I had them do while it was apart). No guarantees, but I suspect that with replacements for 2nd gens and Tundras and whatnot starting to ramp up, they've allocated more resources to the production of replacement frames.

When I got my loaner vehicle, I told them I needed 4WD or AWD and space for large plastic bins with my equipment for work. They offered a Tacoma, a Tundra, or a RAV4, all 2017s. I took the RAV4 because my wife's is getting old and she wanted to see the new ones. The loaner was supposed to be returned every 30 days to re-write the rental contract, and they said I could switch vehicles at that point if I wanted. I was planning to switch to one of the trucks, but my frame was done and I didn't need to.

This is a good deal for you and for the dealership, as Toyota reimburses them quite well, so they should take good care of you.

I'm getting my frame replaced also an it's been a month already an my dealership said the frame could be in anywhere from a week to a month, well I called last week, an that month may take a couple months now..I'm thankful I'm getting it replaced but I didn't realize there was such a back log..The dealership did say they haven't replaced any in "awhile".. In the mean time I'm trying to find out what I should replace before they get it..They did tell me they thought new springs comes with the new frame..I bought new shocks that they will replace..They told me they basically just unbolt the axles an roll them out so they will replace all the brake lines except the one that goes across the back axle, that would be extra if I wanted it replaced..I did buy new brake hoses from Wheelers an I'll probably replace them before I take it up...

Well damn dude good for you. You're lucky Toyota is replacing it at all, lots of people here have a swiss cheese frame and Toyota won't do anything about it since it's either past the deadline or doesn't meet a couple of prerequisites.

    Pretty much stock right now
It will be worth the wait. Check out the '03 Frame Restoration thread if you want to see the alternative to frame replacement by Toyota. Back in 2012 when my '01's frame was replaced, they gave me a brand new 2012 Tacoma to drive. It only had a few hundred miles on the odometer. I think they were secretly trying to sell me a new truck, and it almost worked. I had my old truck back in a week. This was at a time when this dealer was doing several frame replacements a week, and there was a steady flow of frames from the factory.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am very thankful. I have owned 4 Tacomas in my life and will probably have one for the rest of my life! They said they would gladly give me loaner truck which is a necessity for me because of my job. The thing that worries me is that with my job I am constantly loading, gravel, stones mulch, wheelbarrow s and tools every single day in the back of it. It's how I make a living. It's my carreer. I was just concerned about putting scratches in it that might cost me in the long run and how much they might charge me for those. I'm gonna give them another call on Monday and ask more specific questions. I just wasn't sure if anyone had gone through this. Thanks

High demand not only does the vendor need to keep the production lines going which will come before any Warranty Frames .
