Does any one know if the frame recall is still valid? I have 2006 Tacoma DCSB with 114,000 on it and no rust, great condition. I took my truck to Bighorn Toyota in Glenwood Springs, CO for the frame inspection, and they told me the recall was done, after they inspected it. They also told me the recall was only for trucks in Severe winter states and states east of the Mississippi. I also overheard them talking about how the last frame they did cost $15,000 and they weren't going to do another one. 20190121_134904_HDR_resized.jpg This is a pic of the rust on my frame. The rest is in good shape and only one small spot by the rear spring hangers is starting to flake. If they won't warranty it, I'll weld a fish plate and reinforce over the affected area.
I just want to know if they are giving me the run around or do I have a chance of getting the frame replaced.

Don't quote me, but I think your 06 is out. It's 12 years from the date of first use. My 08 runs out in December. I may be wrong, but maybe someone can verify if i'm on the right track.

I got off the phone awhile ago with Toyota Cust. Service for another matter.

When the phone was answered, I was presented with a slew of selections to include Frame Recall.

Call them up and see what they say. I doubt anyone here knows more than they do.

Whether or not your truck is eligible for a frame replacement is somewhat of a moot point. Your frame is in great shape and would not meet the criteria for replacement. I wish the frame on my 2014 looked half that good!

as others have said, if you brought it in for inspection before January 31st, 2019, then you probably have a leg to stand on. Otherwise, your 2006 will no longer apply.

If the latter, good luck welding the plate. Id be curious to see how it turns out! Other than the affected area, your frame looks clean.

Although I do agree with these as a great starting point, these flakes don't look like they are just paint flaking off. The flakes on my frame looked similar but ended up being an entire layer of the frame falling off, exposing a hole underneath.

OP, I would maybe wait to hear from the dealer or corporate before wire wheeling it. Otherwise, it's a good idea to do these exact steps if they deny you a frame replacement.

You need to be looking inside the frame rails as well (inspection camera). That is where the corrosion is worst. Also, make sure you ping it with a hammer and listen for problem areas.

It is actually the metal, not paint flaking off. I didn't want to to touch anything until I get a final word from Toyota. There is good metal to weld to all around the affected area. I made the appointment before Jan. 31, but they could not see me until last monday. Everything-body, frame, and interior are in excellent shape, except for the one spot.

That same spot was flaking on me and I went tappy tappy with a cold chisel and had a hole about 3” in diameter. Dropped my truck off 14 dec and picked up 14 feb. new frame. Cost Toyota $10k in parts and labor. The dealer likes doing these. They said it pays them well. Two techs did it in about 20 hours. Very happy

So I called the number on this page for Toyota. They told me they only did the coating and no frame replacement. After I told her I know they are replacing frames, she suddenly remembered that. However, she said they only did it for cold weather states. Colorado isn't one for whatever reason. She then said she would give my case to someone to review, blah, blah, blah. The dealer or toyota won't help me with this, so who do I turn to now? Guess I'll be trading my truck in and NOT telling them about the frame. I don't want my truck anymore. Done with Toyota for good after this.

Yes the recall is still active. I just go the letter in the mail last week explaining the recall. Now I am supposed to wait for another letter before I can make my appointment for inspection of the frame. I have a 2015

So you think Ford, GM, FCA or anybody else would fess up to a problem like this and quite literally warranty a frame for 12 years? Your dealer is the problem, not Toyota.

It is not a "recall." The actual term is a "Voluntary Customer Support Program" and they make it very clear in the letter that it is not a recall.

Just received this for my 2017, I believe it is cold weather states that use salt on the roads

I'm in Virginia, and my local dealer did a recall to "paint" my frame with a rust-proofing coating a few years ago.

I drive a "beater" in the snow and ice.
