Well, I got the notices in the mail today that my truck is eligible for a frame replacement or CRC application. The notice covers 2011-2017 trucks. I'm amazed it extends all the way to 2017 models, I guess that means they still haven't fixed the frame issue in the new trucks.

--Not sure why the photos are orientated like that, but you get the idea.

Yea, They want to get all the newer trucks in there and spray them so maybe they don’t have to replace them.

From what I understand, we’re covered 12 years after the CRC application...am I wrong?

Yeah, that's what the letter says. We're covered for 12 years from the date of CRC application.

I'll be glad to get the CRC undercoating done. I'm not worried about my frame, it's in good shape, and I fluid film it every year. Having the 12 year frame warranty from when they do the undercoating will give me some peace of mind though.

You're covered for 12 years from the date of first use of the truck. For a 2011 Tacoma that was delivered to the customer on January 1, 2011, the extended coverage will expire on January 1, 2023.

The date of CRC application does not affect the expiration date.

I stand corrected, I reread it, the letter says 12 years from date of first use.

It will be interesting to see what will happen to those who have already paid to have the CRC applied only to find out Toyota is now offering it at no cost.

I tried to make an appointment to have the frame inspection/undercoating done yesterday. The first dealership I called wanted to do the frame inspection only, and when I asked why I'd have to make two appointments, I was told they'd do the inspection, and then "they'd have to order parts". There are thousands of tacomas that are going to need this service and they are going to order CRC piece meal? I felt like I was getting the run around, so I called another dealership and was told they couldn't do the undercoating/frame replacement because "Toyota hasn't approved it". When I told them I was holding a letter from Toyota that said otherwise, they still didn't seem to want to do their job.

I talked to a friend of mine that has a truck that's included in this service campaign and he told me his dealership didn't give him any hassle at all and they were even getting him a rental car while his truck was getting the inspection/undercoat/frame replacement done, if he needed it. So I called that dealership, and sure enough, they knew all about the service campaign and warranty extension. They made me an appointment for a few weeks from now and said I'd have to leave the truck with them all day, if it only needed undercoating, because they'd do it that day. So make sure your dealership knows what they're talking about when you make the appointment.

@Jeff Lange Do you work for a toyota dealer? What's the deal with the different info I was given from every dealer I called?

There is special equipment that is being brought in for dealers as well as training that will be happening with Toyota Canada. Despite having the CRC coating, some dealers are not yet set up to actually complete the process. It's more than just undercoating. Different dealers may be at different steps of the process and so may be doing the inspection first as a gesture to customers who may be worried about the condition of their vehicle.

My advice if you want to avoid making two appointments, give it a couple of weeks and book it then.

I've made an appointment with the dealer that will do it all in one day.

Hope it’s not the same crap that everybody in the states are bitching about. Had mine rustproofed at the dealer as part of the deal, so not sure what that means to the warranty if they spray it over the stuff that’s on there now.
For some strange reason they sent me two letters, came a day apart.

Someone from the dealership is supposed to be calling me on Monday, I'm going to ask what they put on the frame. I already coat my frame in fluid film every year, so I'm guessing they'll have to clean the frame before they put on the CRC coating.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't just wait until the summer to have this done, since I already have something on the frame for this winter...

I’m still baffled by people who are surprised when their unprotected frame rusts. It’s not a Tacoma issue, it’s a metal frame + salt = rust issue.
