I agree with this 100% but most people don’t maintain there undercarriage or even know what a undercarriage is until it’s to late.

When they find out from there mechanic or state inspection there’s a problem with rust, they go to the internet and end up here.

Thus the 10k post about frame rust.

I heard back from the dealership. They're going to need the truck for 3 days. They will supply a rental while they have the truck. I was told it's a wax like undercoating that they are applying if the frame passes inspection.

My dealership is not even providing me a rental, they told me it’s only going to take one day. I contacted Toyota Corporate. :) Wish me luck!

They told me that everything is on Toyota's dime, so there should be no reason they're not getting you the rental, it shouldn't be anything out of their pocket. Why it would be a three day process at one dealership and one day at another doesn't make much sense either. Hopefully you get some answers from Toyota. I'll be curious to hear what you find out.

Just picked up my truck from the dealership, it passed lol. I’m booked in two weeks from now, going to keep my truck for 2 days with a courtesy vehicle...hopefully a Tacoma but I doubt it...probably a Prius lol!

I'm going through gateway. I had to change my appointment to next week, but a friend of mine had his truck done there last week, and he said it was a fairly seamless process.

I took my 2006 Taco to West Coast Toyota in Pitt Meadows for a frame inspection. I'm currently waiting on my new frame to come in. The assistant service manger is the uncle to a TW member. They have done a lot of frame swaps, a lot of their techs are Taco owners, and they were really nice to deal with. I'll know more after I have my frame swap done, but I have complete confidence in them based on reviews, recommendations, and my initial experience with them.

Yeah, I just had mine done there this week. I was going to say Gateway has the best service department in the city. I’ve been dealing with Joanne there for the past 4 years and have had nothing but positive experiences.

I don’t drive my truck much in the winter so I’m going to wait until the summer to have the inspection/coating done.

sorry to jump in but my truck is a 2009 and i had it inspected last year and it passed with flying colours and had the crc coating done. do you know if i can take it back for inspection annually until the extended warranty is up? i mean how do they monitor the frame and its wear unless you can have it re inspected?

Yes, you can have it reinspected. I don’t know if there’s a repeat timeframe, but I’m sure if you asked for an inspection 1 month after you had it inspected, they would say, “Come on. You were just here.” The main thing is keep an eye on your 12 years from date of 1st use. If you let that slip by, you’re SOL.

Just got my truck back from the recall work. I was under the impression that the whole frame was sprayed but it looks like they just spray the problem areas (C channel rails etc). It’s a white waxy substance you can definitely see where they sprayed

That doesn't make much sense. Are they trying to say you just wait until there's a catastrophic failure. Sounds like as long as Toyota isn't footing the bill, they're not interested.

Generally speaking, once the truck is inspected and coated, that's it.

If you want to get it reinspected after that you'd likely need to pay for it unless you could convince Toyota to cover a proper reinspection. There really should be a procedure in place for reinspections.
