Just to add my .02 cents, I took my truck in for a possible warranty issue and they informed me that they needed to inspect my truck's frame for rust. The rust is mostly on the surface and no holes have formed but the manager told me to qualify for the recall they must find a hole 10mm across from rust eating the frame. Also, THE REAL KICKER, is that while Toyota eats the labor costs and the frame, you the owner are responsible for the accessory parts needing replacement such as tie rods, shocks, etc in order for the frame to be replaced. He said it comes to an average of $3,000 OUT OF POCKET whenever they go through with this process….

I had read about this issue before on this very site. While my truck sat for 4 1/2 months I hit the main bolts on the suspension etc with penetrating lube every couple weeks and I purchased newish UCAs and end links as well as front u-joints and had them put the new parts on for me.

It sounds like some dealerships are taking advantage of the situation to up their sales and profit. They are paid a set number of hours by Toyota to do the swaps. The faster the techs complete the swap the more dollars they bank from the set fee. Cutting out rusty parts and replacing with new is faster than dicking around with trying to save the old crap.

It probably wouldn't ever see the inside of a court room. Dealer advised of charges and customer agreed to them before the work was done. Any judge is going to say that you should have done your diligence before agreeing to have the work done. Any attorney 'salivating' to take that case is some rook looking for something to do regardless of the odds or time wasted.

I mean don't get me wrong .. I'm pleased that I basically have a new truck underneath a 06 with 100K on the clock.. But I just wanted to inform people that you may have to cough up some coin out of pocket to have this work done to pay for parts that aren't necessarily bad to begin with... Some people may not have a extra 1K as it cost me for parts that were rusted fast not shot... And they will stop doing the work on your vehicle if u don't agree to pay ... Its a tough spot to be in.... I had the money but didn't expect it... So it kind of puts a slight strain on me..

My dealer told me this is covered 100% by Toyota. They are just waiting on the kit to do mine.

There have been several threads on this and most have had this procedure 100% covered by the dealer. Sounds like your dealer is a real dud...

And it only gets better... Today I head down to pick up my truck.. As you may know or not if u have been following my posts my tires and wheels were stolen off of my truck at the dealership as it sat there waiting to be repaired. .. The dealership refused to pay for the wheels and tires so my insurance company paid for them.. Now .. The check was issued to me for the replacement I had to go to dealershipand get prices on parts to have them send a estimate to my insurance company for my loss.. I was extremely pissed at the dealership for not covering my loss so after I left dealer I called my adjuster and asked if I could purchase my own wheels tires because I'm not happy with said dealer and don't want to patronize them anymore than I have to .. I was told I could buy from anywhere I want... So whill truck is getting sitting I start my purchases Wheels tires send wheels off to sand blast pick them up off to powder coat buy TPS sensors mount balance lug nuts it took awhile but all done .. So in meantime truck gets finished I get a bill in mail for over 4,300.00 for wheels tires and additional work as stated before .. I saw that they ordered wheels tires and installed them on my truck without my Authorization I never signed anything never agreed to let them purchase for me.. So I go to get my truck today with a ride with my wheels and tires .. I ask to speak to service manager and I explained the situation and said I will pay for the additional work that was performed but I will not pay for your wheels and tires because I bought my own... I was told then I will not get my truck back until entire bill is paid! I said u can't do this I never told u guys to order that stuff I never signed for that stuff and I asked my insurance adjuster if I could replace the stuff myself and was told I could.. So once again I have my stuff outside I will pay the bill for extra parts that were cut off do to corrosion but I will not except your wheels and tires .. And was told then the truck will sit here... I said ok I will call the State Police and was told to go ahead... I called them explained the situation and was told it's a civil matter and nothing they could do about it... I called local police and was told same thing so I said I have a key for my truck can I legally just go and drive it off lot.. was told that they would not advise it... So my question is what do I do .. I can file with local magistrate office but this can get expensive with lawyers and be held up for a long time... I've waited over 9 months for my truck yes I got a loaner Suv but helped me very little to none I make a living with my truck so I had to pay a friend to use his for my business because dealer said they have no loaner trucks.. My tires were stolen off there lot and they refused to help me and wouldn't even pay my deductible. . I had frame replaced after 9 months wait and get charged over a grand for parts they had to cut off do to them being corroded to frame. And now they are holding my truck and trying to force me to buy wheels and tires off them after I purchased my own .. I'm so done with this dont know how much more I can take and still be a law abiding citizen!

the dealership has what is defined as a mechanics lien. It is a civil matter yes you CAN recover your own truck legally with out paying as long as the truck is not locked in a enclosure.
Sorry a simple typo can F up the thread. You can recover, I originally typed CANT.

Do you have something in writing that told them to authorize new wheels and tires? Did you tell them you were securing your own wheels?

Man this is a nightmare and feel bad for what you are going through !! How the hell are they not responsible for paying for the wheels and tires from the begining if they were stoled while truck was on THEIR lot ? Think you should post dealers name and all of us here should blow up there email telling them how much we all think they suck !!!! So nice of Toyota Corp to help so much. Sorry to hear about the BS you are going through man.

Better yet when you get all done with this mess wait till they get the new 2016's in and take one for a test drive, when returning to their lot run right into another 2016 then as you are getting out of it tell them ya don't want one because they handle like shit and tell them to turn it into their ins co like you had to. Leave them with 2 wrecked 2016's.

Tell that shop to grow some man-sacks, and muscle those parts off. I'm a little 5'7", 150lb piece of shit that was capable of yanking off my seized parts.

You got ripped off from the start.
    All bolts,etc. are covered.
Service manager is a dick. Did u try owner?
Call Toyota corporate, let them know what 1 of their dealers are doing,& give them a chance to make it right.
    Call BBB & report them.
Call any state agency that will listen.
File civilly in small claims court.
You need to call dealers bluff. They are dicks.
List where u r from and dealer name here now,so no one else goes there.
