This happened to me just a month ago, I got rear ended. Accident didn't look bad, once they removed all the damage pieces, the frame was bent in two places plus the crash caused the trailer hitch bolts to elongate the holes.. the guys insurance wanted to replace the frame.. My insurance said nope, totaled truck.. I just picked up my TRD last Tuesday.. I am happy for the outcome because i just couldn't imagine taking every part off a truck and flopping it on a new frame with no issues.. I would be second guessing the workmanship every time i heard a squeak or rattle or some part breaking..

Bottom line if you decide to get the frame replaced... make sure you claim "Diminished Value" with the other guys insurance company.. Car fax will always show it was in an accident that required frame replacement.
find a good Diminished value appraiser, pay the 300 bucks for his report and submit it, your wallet will thank you.

Looks like none of the vehicles even deployed an airbag yet a 20 mph collision totaled a Tacoma? Maybe making vehicles out of recycled soup cans isn't a good idea after all ;-)

As posted, if you have receipts or other proof of purchase for accessories that you can't remove, the insurance company should up their payment to cover them. Good luck and now you got me thinking of a dash cam.

I recently went through this when my 2018 was totaled.

IF it is totaled, your insurance will provide you with a pay out offer based on market trends of like model vehicle sales. Take your time to look it over thoroughly to make sure that they include all the options on your truck as this affects your total payout. Also, 99.9% chance they don't provide any type of extra compensation for your mods. If it deemed totaled by your adjuster, remove any and all aftermarket equipment that you want to keep.

For the time being, just be patient and wait to hear from the insurance adjuster. There is not much you can do until then.

Co-worker has a F-150 and was hit by someone who crossed the center line (not his fault either). His truck is a 2015 and had over 50K miles. It is a top of the line King Ranch, 4x4 but I was still shocked they didn't total it. They did a complete frame replacement on his and though it took a couple months, the truck came back looking and driving just fine.

My truck was totaled a couple years back in a not at fault accident. Because the other party's insurance accepted full responsibility I did not have to involve my insurance at all. Insurance companies used NADA guides or KBB as a starting point for value and adjust based on mods, etc. Receipts are helpful for this stuff but I had luck just pointing things out in the photos their adjuster took. If it ends up totaled you can negotiate with them if you feel the value is too low.

Others have said it but if repaired you should definitely receive diminished value from the other parties insurance on top of them repairing the truck.

Insurance will typically let you remove your mods but likely won't pay your for them. They insure your vehicle based on a oem value. If you're a long-term customer, without significant claim history, you might get some customer service type assistance but they have no obligation to pay you for mods unless you notify them and pay extra for coverage. Some companies may not cover mods, regardless. If you recently replaced your tires or other, expensive service, they might compensate your for that. The one vehicle that I totaled, I had just put tires on it and the adjuster included that cost in the payout. It is something to keep in mind.....say you had a $5,000 set of Volk wheels and high dollar tires and someone steals them. Unless you had them specifically covered, you'll get the value of an OEM set of wheels and tires from your insurance. Some policies are like homeowner's where you might have some extra coverage, maybe $1,000, for mods similar to jewelry or guns with homeowners. Unless you have it "scheduled", a $10,000 diamond ring will only be covered for $1,000 if it gets stolen and if you have $1,000 deductible, you get nothing.

Def do this, If you can it's best to get some items before it goes to the insurance yard/wherever they take it. My gf had her stereo stolen from the yard by the tow truck driver. He said it was destroyed and put a different one in there. But, it was in perfect condition when I picked her up from the accident site

    Thanks everyone for your responses.

Does anyone know how the factory warranty works after an accident that requires frame placement? Is it pretty much voided? Or would it be beneficial to try and get their insurance to pay for an extended warranty?
