Keep in mind the frames typically rust from the inside-out. Go ahead and use the patches, but be aware there are others spots likely to rust through, too.

If I had the time and equipment, I would love to build a tube frame 1st Gen.

Even better. They can tell you exactly which part of the frame needs attention.

it looks like after they swapped a new frame on it was NEVER coated by them
were they supposed to coat these replaced frames?

Dealer pays for it before the frame replacement if the frame passes inspection. Once they replace it, youre on your own.

the coating is shit... it usually causes the rust to get worse.

Fluid film, rust check, or krown. You need to coat any frame in the salt belt, especially a Tacoma frame

if the new frame was rust free the newly applied coating would've prevented it :notsure: or most of it?

did that cost about $4k or $5k ?

The coating Toyota applies is crap, new or old metal it just traps moisture under the coating and rusts the metal behind.

I use rust check annually on my new frame because I have 6+ months a year of winter and salted roads and surrounded by the ocean. Any frame will rust in these conditions, but a Tacoma frame seems to rust quicker than most

About 2600. But I work at a dealer. For a customer probably 3-4K.
