It shouldn't matter where your truck is from. I got my 01 checked and they sprayed the frame with some kind of tar looking coating. But me your getting a new frame. And your dealer has to replace it if its that bad. If they don't that's on the grounds of sewing because if your in a wreck your frame could give and likely take your life. Toyota has to fix frames if they have holes in them. Good luck man

    Wow,
My dealer in MA loves to look at them, they sent out a $14 oil change coupon to get as many rust recall trucks in to look at them.
Its 2 days of guaranteed work for the shop, why wouldnt they?

The frame replacement is billed out at 62 hours for a 4wd ext cab.
I guess the guy you went to doesnt want the work?

Maybe I just caught the guy on a bad day. I guess i'll find out when I take it in next week. I wish they were buying back the 02's as well. I'm from a small town so I doubt they have done maybe frame replacements, if any. Plus they have a nice 07 on the lot I'd be trading in for!

I am in the same situation as you . I own a U .S truck an I live in Canada. Did Toyota Canada redirect you to Toyota U.S. ?
    Thanks Rob

I called both Toyota Canada and the US and had them run my vin. The said it was eligible for the frame "treatment". Just call your local toyota dealer and book a frame inspection. I'm still waiting to hear back from them on what is going to happen. They told me about two weeks until they'll be calling me back with and answer.

This is very interesting - my 01 had some paint (fenders) issues 3 months off the lot. The dealership called in their warranty paint guy who was a total dick.

In 2007 I started asking about my frame - they said rust was uncommon and this was not a recall. So is this an official 'recall' and the inspection is free? If so, I need a new dealership...

Yep, I just ran my VIN on the toyota site and it tells you of any recalls. My VIN popped up the frame inspection and perforation prevention treatment. Just call your dealer and book the frame inspection.

I've tried two dealers here in Calgary AB on my 03 and neither want to deal with it since it's a US import from Vegas, it doesn't appear to have any rust but I'd like to get the coating done. Also tried a US dealer and they say it isn't eligible. Where do I plug in the VIN for the frame inspection? Or should I contact Toyota direct? I am headed to WA state in 2 weeks, so may be able to get the inspection done there.

    Here's where I checked my VIN - http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/sscinfo?siteid=too_toyota_recall_vinlookup

I would call Toyota Canada and complain.

Could it have already had the frame treatment before you bought it?

so i thought that i would add a litttle update, i searched mine and it shows the frame recall, the ball joints and a fuel hose protector(?!?). i called my local dealership and they searched the vin, found it was us and rebuilt, and asked me to take it in so they could get a picture, milage and a copy of the registration to contact toyota USA and see what would be covered. Heres to hoping they will cover these!!!

Good Luck! I'm still waiting to hear back from toyota whether or not they are going to replace my frame or not. It's been a week and a half now, hopefully not too much longer. Pretty inconvenient not having my truck.

Yep, pretty annoying. I'm surprised Toyota is so slow on giving dealers responses.

Taking mine to Edmonton for the inspection. Service guy told me that they will service the entire frame (clean and coat), though only do minor fixes. Anything beyond that and Toyota Canada will buy the truck back (no new frames in Canada). He assured me that if that was the case "you will be pissed at the buy-back offer".

    Fingers crossed.
