I applied POR-15, after I used the POR cleaner. Did it this past summer, as preventive maintenance. My truck only had surface rust, but since it is almost old enough to buy its own beer, I figured it was worth doing.

my friend's 2016 4runner already has the frame coating falling off in small areas. I think it's planned obsolescence. If the frame was coated properly, then people would never buy a new Toyota.

    Tasteful modifications :)
You lucky ass goose. My whole frame is rusted, and I just recently but some undercoating on it before winter started. My muffler is basically wide open right now, it’s so rusted it sounds like I have a muffler delete.

Lucky indeed. It'll probably cost Toyota like $15k for parts and labor. I'm kind of surprised they didn't offer a buyback for these. I'm wondering if the replacement frames are made just like the old ones, and if so are they covered under any kind of warranty, or is it just going to rust out in 5 years?

This ^^^. Unless you start taking care of it yourself. Deep wash inside and outside plus Fluid Film every year.

I plan on Fluid Filming the new frame at least once a year. Here in Pennsylvania the road salt and brine are real steel killers. It's a shame Toyota's frames don't last like their engines, but then again planned obsolescence keeps the corporate machine running.
