What’s everyone using for preventing rust on their trucks? I’ve heard great things about “CRC corrosion inhibitor” & “fluid film”.

Curious to know what y’all use.

Body Cavity Wax, it's not a dripping sticky mess and doesn't make the truck smell like a chemical factory.

    Canada Eh!
OP: I’d definitely recommend some version of Cosmoline.

I went with a 5gal pale and the wool wax spray gun kit. You could also get the individual rattle cans, which are also available in black.

Cosmoline requires minimal yearly touch ups. If you don’t drive on gravel roads or off-road, it wouldn’t require any touch ups. It’s only removed by physical scraping and solvents.

Going with Krown soon. Canadians swear by it, my father in law swears by it, can’t be too bad if applied annually. I was going to do Fluid Film myself but I think I’ll just do my own touch ups and pay the $150 / year for Krown

    Lots, straight from the factory.
The Arizona dryness and lack of salting the roads has worked pretty well for me so far.

I used Woolwax rattle can on mine. Comes in black, has a decent smell and sprays on somewhat thick. I can compare it to FF but it’s a lanolin based inhibiter as well. I used 2 cans on my truck but know I didn’t spray as much as I should have. I didn’t drop the spare or the skid plate. I don’t expect to drive much this winter with how things have been. They also have a coupon code around here somewhere, might be TW.

Went with cosmoline rp-342 on the new truck. Imo, it was less messy as far as drying on the chassis vs fluid film. I'd say it stinks about the same, but is far more permanent not needing to be reapplied every year like fluid film. Hopefully just touchup.

I live in the rust belt aka New England. NH oil undercoat is a scam. Fluid Film is rated 2nd imo. And the best that I have found is Krown. My truck is a 2018 and I purchased it in Aug. Of 2018. It has seen two winters and still looks brand new. (Aside from the nuts and bolts) I get it done every fall by a local shop. It runs me just under $140.00 well worth it.

Don't overthink this. Buy whatever one you want; touch up/spray it down once a year and be done with it. Last year I used FF may try woolwax this year.

Had friends that used krown and fluid film...claimed fluid film is a better value and holds up better than krown when towing to vermont and quebec every winter. I know another guy here that goes to some garage every fall in vermont that oils down the undercarriage of his chevy duramax. So far after 15 years you can't find a spec. of rust anywhere on that truck.

I was going to go with Krown but after watching this Krown is a no go for me. I've tried FF in the past and wasn't impressed at all, the smell is horrible and it washed off very easy. I just ordered the 5 gallon Woolwax kit and I'm going to give that a try for the first time.

Another product in which I found some happy Canadians is Corrosion Free. It's actually recommended by the Canadian military.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/corrosion-free-rust-proofing.681248/

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to argue with anybody or steer anyone in any particular direction. Just wanted to get the info out there. While doing my research I found Fluid Film, Woolmax, and Corrosion Free to be similar products and had planned on using one of them until I finally decided on Cosmoline.

I'm hoping Cosmoline will just need to be touched up occasionally instead of a yearly application of the others because of some "washing off". But only time will tell.
