Was at local dealer in Wappingers NY this morning and came across this. Looks to be between 20-25, 2005-2006 Tacomas waiting for replacement frames...pathetic!!

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I am currently "discussing" replacement of the OEM hotch receiver with my local dealer (who has possession of my 06 Tacoma) and TMS. In MHO they will replace it or they will be on the hook for any liability should the receiver fail.

What really annoys me is that the receiver has the same degree of corrosion as the frame. It should be part of the frame replacement since it is OEM equipment.

I'm at 3 months now since I took my truck in and it failed. It's driveable, but I have no clue when the new frame will come in.

Taking my truck in to be inspected at the end of the week. I have a 3" suspension lift. If my frame fails and qualifies for a replacement, will i run into issues or get turned down since i have an aftermarket suspension?

Depending on your dealer, but I have an after marker lift kit, no problems what so ever.

I'm getting my '07 with 84K miles inspected by Conicelli (near Philly) on Monday. The frame has a fair amount of rust and one perforation 1.5" in diameter by the driver's side cat. Would this qualify for a full frame replacement? Appreciate any guidance.

I bought my 2008 Tacoma out of New York a couple of years ago. Will it still be covered since it was in NY for 4 years? My frame was super rusty when I got the car.

I would think so, tells1. My '05 just got the nod for a full frame swap from Toy of Turnersville here in SJ. They said my only perforation was "a pinhole" next to my cat.

Probably not! My 2006 DCLB 4x4 was purchased new in Jersey. Was registered up there until 2012. Now registered in SC. Frame has a hole big enough to stick your hand in by the drivers' side cat. Toyota pretty much told to f@$k off since it is no longer registered in a cold weather state. Good luck!

Thanks, it helps to know what standard they may be using. Given the hole and the wide spread rust, I'd prefer a new frame.

Afraid not. I went through the same thing with Toyota Corporate. My Taco came from Saltachusetts, and my frame was quite rusty had it inspected from Toyota here where I live in SD.
Corporate said SD is not in the recall or the "Cold States" (yeah, right).
The only way that they would cover it was if I were to take to a cold weather state like MN or MS or the like.

I bitched about it to the dealer who I bought it from and he split the bill to have it sand blasted and por-15-ed which was $1500.

I'm sure I got a much better job than I would have gotten with a CRC from Toyota.

Hole needs to be 10mm to be considered a candidate for frame replacement.
Something like this will pass easily....

Other thing you do is pick at that spot with a screwdriver. You might be quite surprised at the results.

That picture is just crying out for a snarky smart ass sign about toyota reliability and being the longest lasting vehicles on the road..

Paid a visit to gather more of my equipment and gear out of my truck, and decided to see how things where going first. I was initially told late December early January.

Poor dealership got hit by a small hurricane.

I was informed my truck was still sitting untouched out in the lot, and they handed me my key, minus the alarm fob. Thats when I lost it. The service rep attempts to calm me down after telling me he couldn't tell me where exactly my truck was located on the property. (fair enough, there are 92 other tacomas.. however.. there are only 3 SWB's kinda hard to miss those) He proceeded to go get his "boss". Out walks the GM.

Who was very polite and attempted to answer a few of my questions. Explained that he was quiet upset that I was even given a time line to get my truck back, as well that there were several things not told to me. Such as returning the truck to the dealership in "like factory" condition. After a few more questions he proceeded to get the mechanic who is actually doing all the frame swaps, out to talk to me as well. (side note, mechanic knew exactly which truck was mine, as soon as I said SWB.. "You're truck is in the last row in the corner.. its the tallest one out there.. next to a tundra")

I brought up numerous problems you guys have all reported, and was informed my "kit" including nuts, bolts, washers, front and rear break lines, electrical lines for rear breaks as well as new leaf springs.

After further discussion I was informed that I shouldve been told that I had the option to sign a waver that would allow me to keep my truck until the frame arrived, that stated I would not have to pay for the frame replacement, how ever should something happen due to the frame toyota wouldn't be held liable. When I responded with being told I would have to pay for the frame replacement should I have left with it that day, the Mechanic and GM were just as pissed off as myself.

The mechanic was also kind enough to show me pictures he had taken of his friends own truck going through the process, and assured me the truck will be returned exactly as delivered to them. (worries about after market gear as well as emergency response lights wires located on/ near the frame) He then showed me the part list, and where each of those parts were located. On Toyota's recommended item replacement paper work they sent to every dealer.

I dropped my truck off November 20th. I was told originally like I said late December early Jan. I told the mechanic I wanted a better time line, assured him that I wouldn't be pissed. I was floored.

APRIL. Apparently toyota is working north to south, state by state. The dealerships sister in NJ received something like 32 frames last month while mine only got 5 or 6.

So 6 months with out my truck. I am contemplating having them pay for my next inspection, since I have lost that much time. If you guys haven't taken your trucks in yet, read this and fight for all the parts as well as leaf springs to be replaced. (unless you have put after markets on.)

Also, anything you've welded onto the frame, you risk the chance of being charged to have them removed, same with bumpers, wenches ect. I got the mechanic to note no charges for removing my step bars. And the icing on the cake, as he was looking at my paper work, it was discovered that my truck was marked to have the timing belt replaced as well as the spark plugs. He asked if I had been called about those two items (which I would be charged for) when I told him no, he flipped and told the GM.

So keep on the dealership. Don't let them get away with this BS. I've read some of you guys have had.

Here's the back parking lot of the dealer from the bed of my truck....
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
This was just the back corner of their lot.. there is just as many on the other side too.

It makes me sad to say this, but I bet $20 they were yanking you around because you're a female. Probably thought your boyfriend did all the mods and you actually don't know enough to catch on, it seems to be a depressingly common occurrence.

That said, if they do it again, could you wear a hidden cam and post it here? I love watching dealerships get ripped a new one. [IMG]

I'm debating calling the dealer today just to ask if they have a status update. Been over 3 months, but still no frame. I have my truck, so not a big deal.

The more i read different forums, the more i have decided to jump on the dealership to make sure they do more than just replace bolts & frame.

My truck was inspected by Conicelli today and was approved for a full frame restoration. There is only one perfoation that is about 2" in diameter by the driver side cat. The service rep told me that if there is any perforation, then it qualifies for a full frame replacement. Other details:

    • I'm #4 on their list for replacements and they have no idea when they will have the parts.
    • The frame comes with a replacement kit. The service rep didn't want to quote what was included in the kit because he hasn't seen one yet.
    • Separately, I will also be getting both rear leaf springs replaced. The service rep stated that before the frame was inspected.
    • Since I only have one small hole, the truck is driveable so I did not leave it with the dealer. I did sign a waiver stating I am taking on that liability. Conicelli also said they would not pass the truck for inspection (it's due 1/15). I'm on my own with an independent.
    • I also asked the rep about replacing other parts while they were doing this job (i.e., shocks). He said I would only be paying for parts if they were already involved in the replacement process.
    • Service rep was very professionally and there was no drama.
    • Question to others: What parts would be recommended for updating or upgrading? For example, the service rep mentioned that my steering rack showed a little leakage, although he didn't see it as a major issue right now. Does it make sense to change something like that while the other major work is being done?
