Drove by my dealership today. About a dozen rusty frames on the lot. 3 new ones on pallets. As I turned out of the lot, a semi was pulling in with 3 more new frames. Figure mine will be getting replaced in about 3 weeks if it follows the schedule of others here.

I'm in KCMO. Bought my 2007 used at CarMax 2 years ago, it came from Ohio (a cold weather state). First round on the MO side they said my frame was fine, no worries keep driving. I knew it wasn't, I'd hated the rust since I bought it. Fast forward a year, and Toyota has added some of the previously absent states to the frame recall (MO and KS both now added), and the same dealer OK's a new frame. Been waiting since November? Nothing just yet.

Once again, the magnusson moss act doesn't apply, these trucks aren't under warranty. It's all about how your dealership feels that day.

If it's out of "warranty", then the dealer/Toyota wouldn't cover it. I was talking about the dealer trying to deny a claim because someone drilled holes on one part of it, and having it rust out on the other. They can't do that. Also, Toyota doesn't want to have any newer model years be affected because DanaCorp, went bankrupt being liable for 60-70% of the previous buybacks and replacements on 1st/2nd Gens. Toyota doesn't have DanaCorp to fall back on if newer model years develop the same problems.

Hello! Just brought my '06 Tacoma Access Cab (not a TRD) in the other day for the LSC related to the frame and was happy to hear that I'll be getting a new one! The service rep asked me if there is anything I would like done additional while they have the truck apart, he said there wouldn't be any labor charges. Other than new suspensions, what other items might be a good upgrade/replacement?

And a follow up question related to TRD suspensions, do those have a higher lift than the non-TRD suspensions? Would I need different leaf springs to match the height of the TRD suspensions?

    Thanks!

Waaaaay back in July I took my 07 Tacoma to the local dealer, the service adviser came to me and said I needed the frame replaced and that it would be 6 months to get the parts... Over he past few months, I sent a handful of emails and 3 or 4 voice mails to the service adviser, asking for the status. All with no response. Today I was in that part of town and while driving to the dealership, another adviser called me and said they needed to lift the truck and assess the problem. Of course, I said that was all done 8 months ago.
Turns out the service jacka$$ I was dealing with 8 months ago is gone and there is no record of a frame problem on my truck. The Service Manager met me at the driveway, crawled under the truck and took a few photos and said they need to be submitted to TMS for approval of the replacement.
He promised that they would give me the result in a week... I told him that hasn't worked over the past 8 months, why would it work this time?
    Frustrated, I walked out.
Unbelievable, but it explains why they didn't return my emails or calls...

I know KS is included in one of the service campaigns but the service manager I spoke with told me there were two different ones, and the one that includes KS does not offer the frame undercoating. He suggested I take it to Line-X if I wanted it done. I was always under the impression that you either got a new frame, or the undercoating.

I just got home from the dealer with my truck, sitting on a new frame :) All in all, I'm pretty happy, but I do have a couple of issues. I have a pretty significant scratch in my drivers side door. It's vertical, looks like it must have rubbed on something going up or down the lift. My other issue, my passenger side rear brakes are dragging pretty bad. I just had the brakes adjusted before I took my truck in (at Mr. Tire). It wasn't dragging when I brought my truck in, anyone have any suggestions? Should this be something the dealer should fix? I doubt Mr. Tire would still touch it, even though it's only had about 50 miles since it was done, it was done back in November. They are going to take care of the scratch on the door, not a big deal, as long as the repair looks decent. I already had some small spots that were touched up, and a door ding.

I had new front and rear shocks installed that I purchased for $120.68. My alternator was bad, I sourced one on my own, and installation was the same, $120.68. I have a bad wheel bearing, and was quoted $497.98 ($636.23 with frame on). I plan on using one of BamaToy's assemblies, and fixing that myself.

I will get underneath tomorrow and check everything out. The weather in NE Ohio is forecasted to unseasonably high, I'm looking forward to getting it all cleaned up. I already purchased the fluid film, I hope this frame survives as long as the body.

Don, one of the service managers at Motorcars Toyota, was absolutely fabulous to deal with, and very knowledgable about the whole frame swap. I asked if my engine was left in the body, as some here have had, and I was happy to hear that it was not. He had a pic of my truck going up on the lift, and explained the whole process to me, in detail. This dealership has two shifts, so they don't want the truck taking up someone else's work space. They have two guys that do all of their frame swaps, and they work non-stop until the truck is able to be driven out of the service bay. They began at 5pm and didn't finish until 5am, then came back the next day to finish everything up. I wasn't pleased with my service rep, but Don more than made up for the service reps lack of communication and knowledge. I emailed Don about my brakes dragging, hopefully Toyota will be willing to adjust them. I know some of you had your brakes replaced with the swap, as they have rusted while the vehicle was sitting.

They are covering it to protect their reputation, not because they are in warranty. Don't believe me? Go get your paperwork out and read your warranty.

On the legal side you could argue that it is a safety issue that was clearly not affected by drilling a hole in your frame, but I maintain that the Magnusson moss act doesn't apply.

I think it's more along the lines that Toyota was forced to fix the issue, probably by lawsuit, and I believe there is another one currently going on with the 2009+ tacoma frames. Toyota/Lexus has a lot of issues they initially deny customers, then Toyota is sued, and then fixes the issue. Don't forget they are car company and are out to make money, they just don't help people out because they feel like it.
