I think once the GM realized I knew what I was talking about and explained I did most of the upkeep myself, he turned me over to the head mechanic. Who in turn realized immediately what he was dealing with. Even offered to hold my jacket for me, half way through my rant I started over heating from all the layers I had on. That was the best part, and it isn't the first time I've done this to the dealership. Mechanic pulled me behind the counter and actually talked to me like a "man" if you will.

But the service rep is the one who needed to be ripped a new one. GM had better sense.

First time I did it was when I initally went to by a truck, got out after the test drive and crawled under the truck, popped the hood and called them out for every thing missing and what should be replaced before I buy it. (It was a used truck)

And yes. Next time, I'll wear a camera.

Sorry boys, I'm not a pretty blue eyed girl whose daddy or boyfriend built the truck for me. I ain't got either of those.

    :p

Got a call this morning the frame will be finished by 1/8, another 7 to get it & 3 to do the swap.....murph us law states there will be endless snow when the frame comes in

I just bought a 2006 from N.H. and it looks like it was recently undercoated. If it was done by Toyota what happens in a year or two when the frame rots through?? Will Toyota do the frame or is there a dead line?? Thanks

I called my dealer today to see if they had heard anything. They got the 10 frames in for the trucks they need to do, including mine. now it's just a waiting game. They said they have 1 tech that does them and it take him a week per. So they said they are just scheduling them as he finishes them. So it sounds like mine will be soon. Here's to getting new rear leaf springs too. :)

You have until March 31, 2016. Presumably after that, you are shit out of luck unless they do another service campaign or issue a recall.

I don't understand why a dealership would hold your truck because it needs to have the frame replacement. ...
I just yesterday had my 06 tacoma in at my local dealership for the inspection under the service campaign and obviously it failed and I mean failed miserably.. Look at my photos under the camera icon below my avatar as I don't know how to post them .. My frame is cracked rotten holes size of half dollars in multiple places I can knock pieces of rotten sCale off my frame 1/4" thick bigger than potatoe chips.. My dealer took my truck at 2:30 appointment 2:40 he said yes you need a frame.. 10 min on lift... He said he ordered a frame and said sign here for your keys and I drove home.. He said he will contact me in a few weeks or months when frame is in.. work will be a week and a rental will be given to me at no cost.. All recall work no cost to me..

This isn't my first truck and I had rusty looking frames before but this thing is bad.. My friend drove a small blazer over a snow drift , he slid on ice and was stuck in a ditch.. He called me and asked if I would pull him out and I had to say I couldn't in fear my frame would Crack in 1/2 .. Boy did I get some slack over that.. Anyways my point being is.. I don't know how bad some of the frames are of the people's trucks that dealership are keeping the truck until frame comes in and it's installed. . Or at least they are told and had to sign they are driving at own risk and Toyota Corp.. is not responsible for there safety and takes to responsibility if something happened. . I was not giving that option I signed only for my keys that I was leaving the lot with truck.. They better not have dooped me and had me sign off on liability. .

How far is Conicelli to you? Would New Holland been closer?
Keep us posted...I'm very close to you (Lancaster). I've ordered parts from Conicelli (www.partznet.com). I bought my truck at New Holland and they've always been good.

About PA Inspections - I'm not familiar with PA inspections in terms of frames. However - I would highly recommend talking with your local garage about it/frame. Tell them the situation..... If it won't pass - and since you have a work-order in place to have it fixed - How can you get a temporary extension (or something) in place to hold you over until the frame is replaced???.

I asked before I signed if my truck was safe to operate in its current condition and was told absolutely. .. Yet they would not put a Pa state inspection on it 4 months ago .

I just called Toyota customer care and was told my vehicle never should have left their property if the frame was perferated and I did not sign off on a liability waver..
The dealership should be able to provide u with a loaner vehicle if they except the work..
So I called the dealership and told them I did not sign off on liability was not informed thatand I was able to to take my truck home..She stated I should bring the truck back immediately, And she said I am responsible to get my own rental vehicle as they do not provide a loaner until work is being performed. . I said "Well one of us is miss informed . She said hold till I look into it.. After a few she said that I am eligible for a loaner and she needs my drivers license insurance card and a credit card... I asked what's the credit card for? I think she said so if there is any damage after I pay for it!!! I don't know but I have to take my truck back or sign off .. I'm not paying for a loaner for 3 months or more .. I will post my experience later this after.. Peace!

The dealership does not have a truck in their fleet so they loaned me a 15 Rav4 good gosh I miss my truck already. . I Explained to the dealership I need a truck for my work and can get by a few days with the Rav4 but I have to have a truck .. They told me they can work with Enterprises rentals to get me a truck if it's a problem .. I said in about a week I will need one.. So moral of story is if dealership takes on the work to replace your frame you are entitled to a loaner from dealership or rental from a vendor at no cost to you.. Or you can sign off on a liability waver and keep driving your own truck..

Well actually if you signed it without reading it you dooped yourself. After reading the rest of the thread it is good that you are not driving that train wreck of a frame, good also that you had not signed a waiver. That service writer is a turd that allowed you to drive that off the lot.

    Janster,

Conicelli is 10 minutes from my home. So far I have no complaints as the service manager was very accomodating and seemed open to replacing worn parts that would be coming off during frame replacement and not charging for labor. Given the backlog in perts, I'm guessing it will be months before the work is scheduled. I haven't tried to get the truck inspected by my independent garage yet, however I'm not expecting an issue. You have to be looking for the hole in the frame to see it.

So my truck has significant rust on the frame. It was originally titled in Connecticut and it's listed under the frame rust safety campaign. Back in October I took it to Knoxville toyota to have a few recalls fixed and to get my frame recoated. When I went back to pick it up they told me that the frame campaign didn't apply to my vehicle since it was now registered in Tennessee even though it came from Connecticut. After several phone calls to corporate headquarters they have agreed that mine is eligible. The lady I spoke with said all toyota dealerships in Tennessee were capable of a frame replacement. However she informed me that only one dealership(Bristol, which is about 3-4 hours away) is capable of recoating the frame. I asked her how it was possible to know how to swap a frame but not recoat one.. Anyways she says I have to take it to Knoxville for inspection and then to Bristol for recoating. I think it's mainly surface rust but I have not really inspected it all that well. I've mainly just looked at the outer frame. What areas do I need to check? After reading this thread I don't think I want them to spray mine..

Got the call. I drop my truck off Monday at 430 after work. Not sure if they will replace rear leaf springs or not. They are putting my bilstein 5100's on for me at no charge, which is awesome.
