Had an interesting weekend, been waiting 6 months for my chassis to be done and this past weekend the front right brake line busted and I have no brakes. Trying to see if this is enough to get it deemed unsafe and give me a rental until the chassis comes in or if I'm on my own here. Don't want to fix it to only have Toyota fix it in the recall.

Well ...... you can try but since the recall is for the frame I don't think so. The Brake lines are, IMO, a replaced part WITH the frame - not because they are the recall. I'd just put a temp splice in and refill / bleed the brake line before I'd drive it again.

have an '07 Taco that is now at dealership in Tucson for almost 3 months now...it failed the hammer whack test on passenger side near crossmember

just contacted both NHTSA & Toyota re no estimation on frame swap completion date...dealer does not understand why they are not given completion dates...am also worried about the

reconstruction of truck especially all the electrical connections...expecting a couple of problems...my truck spent first 6 years of life in Chicago area with all the salt and slush..how I come out

of this will determine whether I consider Toyota vehicles in future...good luck to all frame and leaf recall customers

they replace the metal brake lines, not the rubber fle
toyota cares should be able to give you a ballpark date on teh frame. all things considered, it's not that bad of process once they actually do it. it's the waiting and lack of communication that will drive you crazy.

My 07 has been at the dealer for 3+ months. I called at 2 months and was told it would be 3 months so I called again at 3 mo. and was told they don't have any idea when it will be done. So I called Toyota Corp. and was told the same thing...no idea when my frame will be done. How can they not know? The recall is over they should have some idea how many trucks are left to do and the time it is going to take to get the parts. So here I sit with a atv, boat, and trailer witch I am making payments on and paying insurance and no way to tow them and they have absolutely no idea when my truck will be done. I have been part of the "Toyota family" for 35 years. I'm done with Toyota after this.

So this recall is closed for the 2005 model year. I am considering buying a 2005, the guy never had the frame inspected, it's in Denver. Looks clean, 219k on the odo.

Do I just look it over real good?

Yup it's closed. Your taking a big gamble buying an '05 in the snow belt, but if your set on looking at it,
You can check this area of the frame:

So I look in those spots, what somewhat concerns me is that he says he never got a notice, and he knew nothing about the leaf springs. It looks like a clean truck, I hate to fly to Denver and find rust he doesn't know is there

Edit: He sent pics, one had the bad spot, it's a shame, it was a clean truck, with a crappy frame... I canceled my flight

I'm a few weeks away also. I have recent shocks/struts so they won't be changed this time. I did order a set of steering rack bushings as well as a center bearing and three U-Joints for the rear shaft to combat a driveline vibration I have at 50-55 mph.
Received the rear spring recall notification in the mail yesterday, but the dealer said they expected this and that the real leaf springs would be in the frame parts package.
    Just past 150K last week.

Care to link me to all of said parts and total cost? Id like to have the major components the dealer wont cover in hand by the time my frame comes in. Also did you have a list of parts to reference that they wont cover that usually does get replaced with these?

    I have:
    1. steering rack bushing kit from Wheelers off-road (ES 8.10106G Steering Rack Bushing Kit, 05+ Tacoma) for $58
    2. Spicer Center Bearing Assy from Amazon (5002334) don't remember the cost...
    3. Spicer 5-1330 U-Joints from Amazon (B00D018BDS) for about $27 each

I expect that I'll get some pushback on the U-Joints from the dealer, they may want some shop time for that install, but they have to take off the rack and the center bearing. My ace is the screw-up of the service advisor that told me it was approved for replacement in July 2015 and never submitted the problem. I visited their shop after the 6 month wait to find he had lied and had recently quit.

Parts stories have varied, from nothing needed to bolts broken and other odds and ends (you'll have to review this thread for details). But there are also a few stories about a dealer taking good care of people.

Since this recall is winding down I'd like to share a couple comments if I may.

First, I've followed this thread since Post #1. I'm always amazed in the pictures how good the bodies/paint look on the Tacomas for their ages.

I'm also surprised that Toyota stood behind all these frames for the age of the vehicles. As a previous "always" GM user I just know GM would have told everyone to take their rusty frames down the hall...

And finally, I realize that not all who had their frame replaced had a "great" experience with the process/outcome. But, I'm also impressed on how many did have a good outcome with the swap for the quantity involved.

I swapped to Toyota due to their better quality and support. And I for one am still glad for the swap.

Same here they had no idea when the frame would come. But I made sure I got another truck for a loaner. My frame just came in Thursday and I should be picking it up Monday. I waited over 4 months. They originally told me it could be as much as 6 months

That looks like the frame replacement bay at Thompson? I'm at four months now and haven't heard anything. I do see that have 3 new frames waiting. What else are you having done? Also, who is your service manager?

Good eye it is Thompson. I had them put on 5100s Toytec AAL 2016 coils and Gibson exhaust. And they fixed a leak in the rear dif. I think the service managers name is Steve but I've been talking to a guy named Ben. I picked it up Monday and dropped it back off today. Something was leaking.

Well... Like an idiot I totally forgot about this recall. For some reason I thought I had more time to have it inspected and remedied.

Apparently that is not the case however. I have a hole about the size of a softball in my frame and the Toyota mechanic told me they definitely would have had to replace my frame if I had brought it in for inspection during the recall.

Toyota has already told me that I'm pretty much SOL, since I missed the deadline.

So what are my options does anyone know?

Id think youd have to wait until the "next" recall campaign if that ever comes. I highly doubt it but maybe some 1st gen owners can enligthen you as to if there ever was a 2nd campaign.
