You made my point, Toyota wasn't forced to remember this wasn't a recall, so they could have told us to pound sand, but decided to spend $13,000 on 11 year old trucks, which I don't think any other manufacturer would do IMO.

Here is my understanding of the situation: Toyota had vehicles snapping in half on lifts, and vehicles that were unsafe to drive. They were buying back vehicles with faulty frames. That got too expensive, so they got Dana involved because they made the frames, and split the liablity costs with them for frame replacements. Dana Corp went bankrupt, and the same frames are on all trucks through 2015. That's 10 YEARS of faulty frames. There is a lawsuit going on right now with Toyota. I'm also curious what you would consider a recall.

To put it simply, Toyota doesn't legally have to replace a frame if it is beyond the warranty. The leaf springs are being recalled at $1,300 X 769,000 = close to 1 billion and they have to legally. I'm on your side, because all I got was my frame sprayed and no extended warranty like the 2001-2004 received, so I'm out of luck if 6 months from now I get a perforation and my truck basically becomes a giant paperweight, while the 2001-2004 have a 15 year warranty, so a 2004 can have their frames replaced till 2019.

So I just got my letter a week ago about the frame rust inspections stating that I had to have it done by 3/31/16, I don't think that's going to happen. I called toyota to see if they would extend it, not sure what they will say. I bet I'm SOL, but my frame only has a few areas of rust and doesn't look too terrible.

I would fight it if you are just getting notice now. There must be a date on the letterhead to prove what you say is true, so if your frame has a perforation they owe you a new frame.

It doesn't cost Toyota anywhere near $1300 for a set of springs. Both springs and frames seem like safety issues to me. I'm curious why there is a replacement on springs and not frames? Cost maybe?

Yeah I'll see what they say. I don't have any dates on the letter itself and the envelope is long gone so I may not have any way to prove it. I initially thought they had screwed up and sent me another letter about my leaf springs, it was only today that I noticed the date limitations, lol.

I would try and contact Toyota and ask if they just sent you a letter, because unless it got lost in the mail, it's hard to imagine a letter that isn't valid with the 3/31/16 date would be mailed so late.

Yeah I called corporate to ask if the 3/31/16 was a misprint, I figured they meant 3/31/17 or something. They said it was too late but she referred it to a special department to see if there was anything they could do. Fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

At least your doing the right thing and looking into it. Who knows your neighbor could have gotten it by mistake and is just now delivering it or could of been UPS losing it, because I have heard stories like that. I hope either way Toyota does right by you.......Good luck!

Well toyota corporate just called me and told me there are no exceptions to the frame inspection deadline. I am fairly disappointed in toyota, I will likely look more closely at the canyon for my next purchase.

Dropped off monday morning by the wife. Just got a call, they are doing some test drives. Had an alignment done, some break lines bled, a few finishing touches, but should be picked up tonight. Just under 40 hrs of labor. Only issue was the hitch receiver was rusted to shit, and not part of this swap. I hardly ever tow anything and plan on getting a diff bumper anyways, so ultimately not an issue for me.

Picked my up Thursday after 4 1/2 months. Rides nice and so far no issues. I did notice a scratch on the bumper and a little chipped paint in that area. I did take photos prior to dropping off, not sure if I want to make an issue out of it. Happy to have the Tacoma back!

Make an issue of it. I've been in a rental for 2 weeks while dealer fixes my bed and goes back and forth with Toyota Corp over acceleration issues that didn't exist before frame swap. The hood latch and release don't work either and did before the swap. Make an issue of it all and document. Hopefully your dealer is better than mine.
