Did you buy it from a dealer or private sale?

I bought it from a private seller does that matter? I thought Toyota trucks were suppose to be great and I finally buy one after driving a nissan for 16 years and hear they have all kinds of things wrong with them.

the Limited Service Campaign did expire in March, they sent out recall-like letters to owners over the past two years. The LSC was for rust-belt trucks, if your truck lived in Florida the owner probably didn't get a letter because it didn't meet the rust belt criteria, winter salt being the major factor. It's not Toyota, it's possible the prior owner that gooned you on this issue, if you has a northern states truck.
You should be able to talk to the service advisor/service manager at your local dealer to see if there was an inspection done on your vin and what actions were taken.
if you look at the early posts in this thread, you'll likely find a copy of the letter.

It was in Louisiana for years before coming here are only the rust belt state vehicles up for the recall. My trucks frame is rusted some but since its not from up there should I be worried? I was gonna put some POR 15 on it.

there are some that have commented about significant rust when the trucks have been used in ocean/gulf areas. I'd look at some of the pictures of other frames here and consider if yours has actually rusted holes or the metal softened to the point where they are flex when pushed with a tool.
My guess is you have some surface rust and the metal frame is not compromised unless you were exposed to road salt or it was driven routinely in the ocean.

One vehicle history report says the truck was in La for years and another one says Minnesota and Wisconsin which is right there at the rust belt. I dont know which ones right but Toyota corporate sent me a link and theres nothing about a frame recall on there.

My frame finally came in last week. Brought it in first week in March, finished in August. I have to say, they did a good job. 148K miles and it does feel like a new truck. The squeaks are gone. Truck feels tighter. The brakes were softer like others have pointed out but I don't mind. Hopefully it gets better. I was thinking of trading in my truck, but I'll probably drive it around for another 100K miles now!

Dropped it off Tuesday, was told it would be done Friday. My loaner car was a 2014 Tundra Limited, all the bells and whistles. Shoot, told them to keep my truck! They called me Friday morning to pick up my truck, I didn't answer and waited until Monday, after a weekend of fishing  That Tundra is a sweet truck. I can see myself in one. Getting back in my Taco after that Tundra, it felt so small and cramped hahahahaha

It's not intended (because it won't) to make you feel any better, but the Frame Rust "Recall" was, I believe, an initiative conducted by Toyota to remedy those snow belt vehicles that suffer from excessive rust following exposure to northern road salt. It was limited to a few handful of states and Toyota probably put a time limit on it to manage their financial losses related to the problem. It was not a recall that was mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and I doubt that they had anything that forced them to do this other than the desire to keep a lot of loyal customers in the fold.
Toyota had a similar problem earlier in the 2000's that resulted in some trucks being purchased by Toyota and I'll bet the majority of those buy-backs got another Tacoma.

I learned a lot about the way to buy a used vehicle from my experience with my truck: send the VIN to a NHTSA webpage for a list of recalls before I buy, do it on my phone while on the lot.

You bought an 11 year old truck last week, most of us would expect there to be some surface rust below the shinny parts. Crawl under a few 11 year old Ford or Chevy trucks and see if it compares. You read about the LSC and seem to be looking for something for nothing. Sorry, stuff happens, is this a case of "Buyer Beware"?

Well, Attitudes aside, There is a point here. For all trucks that "passed" the frame inspection (but still may fail later) - Should Toyota be "Somehow" (TBD) obligated to warn/support/compensate LATER owners? The bad frames are replaced - the "marginal" ones are a problem down the road .... A Totaled vehicle with a, now bad, "Recoated" frame is arguably worth less from insurance. An Unsuspecting buyer may lose all value as the frame fails. Who is responsible for the fairness to this issue ??

Well, I upset mr Jet5380 and he is apparently gone after a rant at me. Sorry to anyone who had to see that...
Bottom line was that he said did inspect the frame and was OK with it when he bought the truck last week. Then he called me a bunch of bad names, actually the same few names a lot of times. I'm a retired Navy Master Chief, I've been called worse...

Wow, have been waiting since around Feb 22 for the frame call. Just dropped off my '08 Taco and now driving a 2016 Taco...Wooohoo!
Service manager said they will install my supplied, Bilstein 5100 (x4), Toytec AAL and intermediate steering shaft (mine's clunky).
    Said 3-4 days tops.
    Really like the 2016 Tacoma w/ only 1000 miles....hmmm

    update 9/12:
Dealer calls "Oh, needs rear axle seals and brake shoes for $412, while we have it up"......hmmmm again

Picked up the "new" taco today! WOW what a difference! Drove to Firestone and bought the lifetime alignment, then scheduled a dose of Fluid Film.
The machine runs smooth and firm. Rocky roads or highway, nice road feel... I'm extremely happy with the dealership.. (even put my magnetic hide a key back on the new frame...I had forgotten about it! )...Zero issues! :amen:
