Well the dealership looked at it and said it wasnt structural or any holes. Said it was just surface rust. Recommended I coat it with something.

How exactly was that fixed? Did they weld new metal into it?

Yes, plate steel welded on frame. Need a good welder, turned out great, but it was an uphill battle I was tired of so when I sold it I disclosed this info and if you are handy with welding, it might not be a big deal.

In answer to your question; yes I do know...

However to reply to what I suspect you meant to ask, the answer is NO--the model years covered in the class action suit are 2005 through 2010.

Do you have a frame rust problem on your 2014?

Sooo....without reading 135 pages of the thread. My trucks original purchase date was march 27 2005. 12 years from that date is in like 2 weeks. The dealers know nothing about the extension to 12 years, therefore they wont look at my frame because the original cut off was 10 years and has already passed. So now what???

What I would do ... Go back to the dealer. Have them write up a service order stating what you said. Let them reject the claim. Then Contact Corp.

If you owned it on or before 12/2/2016 then it will be eligible for remedy (either CRC or replacement) for one year after the final judgement is entered. Final judgement is currently scheduled for June 26, 2017.

As I have stated numerous times in the many related threads it is unlikely dealers will be (or admit being) aware of this suit until late July or August. They will do nothing until told exactly what to do by Toyota, and more importantly assured they will be reimbursed. That will likely be mid/late summer at best...

You can ask, but the answer will likely be no. Where are you located? If not in a place that uses salt on the roads, and the frame is not a ball of rust now, I would use the frame issues and lawsuit as a negotiating tool to get the price down.

If you are in the rust belt frankly I'd walk away from buying an '05 to '10 Tacoma unless the frame was in good shape with very little to no rust--and the price reflected the potential "down-the-road" issues. If the fame was nasty rusty as some of those posted in these threads I run away from buying one.

Sort of an aside: Does anyone know if Toyata corrected the rusting frame problem in later 2nd gen ('12 to '15) and the 3rd gen trucks--or has there just not yet been a lawsuit filed?

Also I find the nature of the rust to be odd and have never seen frames so badly rusted (flaking, perforated, etc.) on other vehicles just 7 to 12 years old, even 50 years ago in New England. The severe corrosion shown in some of the photos looks like that typical of the very crappy Asian cold rolled formed steels in the 70s. Sort of like what Harbor Freight trailers looks like if left sitting for 4 or 5 years...

I live in Canada and my truck was imported from th US at 8,000 miles. I took it in when the frame recall/undercoat was happening. They told me my frame was fine and did a shitty job on the undercoat. Two years later I take it back in and there's a large hole in the frame. I've only put 15,000 kms on it two years(not miles). My local Toyota now says I'm shit out of luck and to deal with it in the US. They diagnosed it, they fucked the undercoat( the tech at Toyota who recently found the hole said he couldn't even tell it was undercoated). I'm suing the local Toyota and likely Totota Canada. I use my truck to pull my work trailer. Single income family. There's a chance it could still be replaced in the US but where the fuck does that leave me? Out a truck for 3 months, having to drive 5 hours, get a passport, no rental while my truck it having the frame replaced, and if there's anything wrong after I get it back I have zero recourse. I just don't fathom how they can diagnose it, then undercoat it and then when the whole in the frame is discovered they try and absolve themselves if any responsibility. Fuck Toyota

That sucks. Hopefully they make good. I was under the impression that if it failed after the coating it would still be covered. I was able to drive mine until th enew frame came in and then it only took 3 days for the swap. Keep fighting!

Thanks for the props lads. Apparently there is a defined time limit for the undercoating and I'm within it. That being said its gonna be an uphill battle to get a new frame or buyout. I'm dissapointed in the confusion at Toyota concerning this and hope it gets rectified in the near future. Apparently since my truck was imported into Canada from the US I'll have to wait until the class action settlement comes to fruition. Let's hope the new tacos dont suffer the same Swiss cheese frames like to older gens. I love my truck and take good care of it. But I do use it to haul and mosh. I've done all the routine maintenance and been prudent with recalls. Upwards and onwards!

Received my notice today - the campaign is back open. That's not a perforation, though the separation exceeds 10mm. I'm not going to let something like that just get a coating over it.

Read this whole thread--nothing has been finalised as yet. The Final Order and Final Judgement are scheduled for June 26--pending the outcome of the objection period ending 3/27 and the Fairness Hearing on 4/27. Should Toyota USA wish to further contest the suit (and I do not believe they do) this could drag on for another year or more.

BTW, I read that the estimated cost to Toyota USA--if all of the "guesstimated" affected 225,000 vehicles (Tacomas, Tundras and Sequoias) have frame replacements--is $3.4 billion. That's about $15k a pop, which sounds about right given the cost of a new frame/labour (at a dealer), etc.; which frankly for many included in the class is more then the vehicle is worth--I sure as crap would not pay $15k for ANY 2005 Tacoma (well, maybe MINT with all sorts of toys).

Has anyone paid to have a frame replaced? What did it cost (frame and labour)?

Toyota Canada spent over $15k on my 2005 Tacoma that I paid 6k for. They replaced a frame on a 2wd absolute POS Tacoma before mine worth no more than $1,500

And what was it worth when they got done?

If done today it would remain a 12-year-old truck with a 12-year-old drive train, 12-year-old body, 12-year-old systems and 12-year-old "desirability rating". This is one of the reasons limits like the 12/02/2016 ownership cutoff are included in settlement agreements.

What is odd to me (If the $15k number is valid, and I can see it being so) is that Toyota has not instituted, through its dealers, a "used Tacoma accumulation" program to build up a stock of good used trucks. Then when the 2005 POS comes in under the recall/lawsuit they just say to the owner "How 'bout we replace it with a nice clean '07/'08 model?" and scrap the POS...
