Just out of curiosity, I looked up the frame price.

Maybe someone here can give some insight before I begin a new thread...

...any difference between old and new frames once replaced? In that I mean will the new frame eventually have the same problem?

I purchased an 06 with a brand spanking new frame and obviously want to drive it for a while, living in upstate NY I'm gonna Fluid Film the crap out of it this fall, but I'm just curious about the integrity of the replacement frames. I assume no one has had theirs long enough to find out right?

Imo I wouldn't count on the new frames being any better. People with 2010's are now having rust issues. I would fluid film it inside and out. It will last if you do this, even an original frame would last if this was done annually.

That's the plan, with Eastwood internal frame coating first. I'm also gonna hit any other places under the truck plus inside bumpers and stuff with Eastwood rust converter or encapsulator. Basically by the time winter rolls around again in going to have a salt brine proof truck.

Here's a question I can't find an answer too. My truck was inspected a little over a year ago. And it passed. They said it was one of the better frames they'd seen. So they just sprayed it with some sort of rust proofing and sent me on my way. Now what happens is if in 5 years say my frame starts to rot out, who's on the hook for that? Does the spray extend he warranty or would it be up to me to get the frame either changed or repaired should the need arise?

I see you live in Canada, if your truck was sold originally in Canada then the US based Brain Warner vs. Toyota lawsuit does not apply.

However if the original purchase was in the US you will be covered by the terms of the "Brian Warner" class action suit (once final judgement is entered), for up to 12 years after the truck was first sold. For example if it was sold on September 30, 2005 it would be covered 'til September 30, 2017, if purchased on April 11, 2006 then until April 11, 2018.

There is appears to be a similar Canadian based suit underway, but it seems to be in its infancy with the initial claim filed on 11/21/2016 and an amended claim on 3/7/2017. The suit currently has just two plaintiffs, but includes language defining a broader "proposed class". I have no idea of the efficiency of courts in Canada, however this action were in the US it would be 12 to 18 months away from a final settlement agreement.

The law firm pressing the case in Canada is seeking aggrieved parties, there's a form for signing up on the website.

Minor correction to the US terms. It is 12 years from original purchase or 1 year after final settlement is entered, whichever is longer. 12 year thing was of great concern to me because my original purchase was 5/2005 and 12 years is going to pass before this is settled.

So basically people for whom the 12 year thing has passed or will soon pass have 1 year to sort this out after settlement.

This is correct--do you have a significant frame rust issue--just curious?

Not that I can find yet. Lot of surface rust in spots but so far nothing like rot. I need to get under there and look very carefully with a flashlight all over the whole thing once it warms up a bit more. I installed some Bilstein 6112/5160's and then a Hellwig rear sway bar kit recently and from what I could see during install all is OK. Near primary cats in the engine bay, zero rust.

I was very concerned in depth of winter as I had just found out about this new settlement. But it was way too cold (up here in the CO Rockies) to inspect and frame was covered in ice anyway.

Hey all. Long time Toyota and Tacoma fan but new to the forum. I have a fairly good understanding of what all the frame settlement covers and the deadlines but what I don't understand is it seems like a bunch of people keep having their frames replaced currently. Everyday on the Facebook page someone is saying that they just got a new frame installed as well as a few people on here. I've also seen pictures of dealerships loading up on frames and discarding old ones. I'm just curious as to how people are currently getting their frames replaced if the original settlement expected and the new one isn't finalized? My 07 Tacoma has about a fist sized Rust hole on each side of the frame by the Catalytic converters. A couple of months ago when having the new leafs installed the service manager said I would qualify for a new frame and seemed ready to get started when someone else there stopped him and said they would need to wait for official word.

From what I have read, it looks like the V-6 is more susceptible to the frame rot than the 4-cyl.

In the pics I saw, the cats are a lot closer to the frame rails than the single cat on the 4-cyl.

Are most of the new frames going to 6-cyl or are 4-cyl frames rusting out too and I just haven't read that post?

I just got a 2006 with a new frame. Truck is from MA, only a tiny bit of rust on welds. I'm really hoping that Toyota took care to manufacture the new frames differently than the old ones.

I plan on "rust proofing" my entire frame this summer. I also might devise a secondary heat shield to protect the frame from the cats.

The people who are currently getting their frames replaced had frame inspections done before the March 31 deadline. Most folks are having to wait 4-6 months for the frames and parts to come in after inspection.

Those frames being replaced are being covered by Toyota's now ended recall campaign--the class action lawsuit, a separate action, has not yet been finalised...

Yeah that's what I said. JBWilson asked how people could be getting their frames replaced currently before the lawsuit is settled. I answered his question.

I wanted to clarify that the Toyota recall, and the class action suit were distinct and unrelated activities...
