Dealer failed my frame. Said 8-12 weeks just to get frame. Shipping docks may hold it up longer. Just glad it's getting replaced soon.

As promised, reporting back on my frame replacement from Koons Toyota in Westminster, took 4 days to do the install. As I have only driven it twice for less than 20 miles I don't consider this the last word but as a whole my 06 feels really good and everything is working fine. In fact, I think it sits a little higher, probably due to the new springs. They are substantial compared to those skinny 2 leafers that came originally. In fact, I think I'm more pleased about them than the frame ! There are now 3 leafs (not counting that bottom stop leaf) and the third leaf has the thickness of the bottom one but curves up pretty far under the second leaf. My truck used to bottom out harshly on potholes, now it goes over them smoothly. In the end I spent $60 on a new front brake line (bad or broken when they removed it), a radiator mount bushing and 1.2 lbs of refrigerant which after almost 10 years was not surprisingly low at .3 lbs when they extracted it.

Attached is the parts list, first image is clearer, second has the second page quantities on it.

    Lololol
I will give you my impression on how it will feel!
As for now,all i replaced my muffler which had a whole in it,so i had it replace.
It will be treated at Crown ( rust treatment) tomorrow afternoon,if it is ready as promised.
    Thanks

I dropped my truck off 2 weeks ago. I certainly hope it won't take 5 months like some have posted on this forum. I'm 11 out of 13 trucks at my dealer. Called today and they said they were still waiting on parts and have yet to do a single frame replacement yet. In that regard I'm glad there are 10 rigs ahead of mine. I also just replaced my shocks/struts with 5100s so when all is said and done it should be pretty awesome of a ride. I need to have the timing chain cover tsb performed as well and are hoping they cut me a deal and not charge full labor for the job as they will already have the truck apart. Time will tell.

I finally got my baby back!
It was treated as i told you right after i came out of the Dealer.
Krown anti-rust was aplied, and he did also a great job!
Now my Tac is like a new truck under,,as the mechanic told me.
It does look also as new under!:)
Feels very tight too on the road.
I have nt driven it yet on the high way,but will this morning, but so far everything feels very GOOD!
So after this waiting guys,i am really happy that Toyota did everything to bring back this Tacoma back to life!
It was a long 5 months of wondering, but so glad that it is over...
You should see the old frame,,it is pretty bad!
The owner of that Dealer could nt beleive how bad this frame was for a 2007!
I have been with Toyota fir over 20 years and we will stay with them, even my wife drives a Toyota Camry SE,,
    Cheers everyone,going ice fishing today!

No. People have had ones in to the dealer that look just fine, but when the dealer tests by hitting with a hammer at the typical problem spot in the box portion of the frame it punches through. And so then they do a frame replacement. Of course most of the bad frames have lots of rust, but some don't an the worst rust is internal to the box frame and mostly invisible.

You maybe right,i am nj expert for sure! :)
Though mind was very rusted ,and I thought that those that were acceoted to be changed were pretty much in the same condition as my frame was..
I have seen one Tacomas ,the very same year as mind and it was just find,or seemed almost as in perfect condition, compare to the condition of my old one.

    Regards
    Charly

Question, and forgive me if this has been asked and answered. My '06 has a less than a year old full OME suspension, including Dakaars. All suspension is new.

If mine does fail inspection and I get a re-frame, they just re-install this, right? Probably a dumb question. I did tell the service guy on the phone I have a suspension lift and he didn't say anything.

That depends on the dealership, the dealership that is local to me would not do that, they want the truck back to stock or they are gonna charge me labor to reinstall the lift.

The good news: Dropped my truck off at Thompson Toyota in Doylestown Pa, where I bought the truck brand new 9 1/2 years ago. I figured this would help my case. It did, they ordered a new frame for replacement, 3 1/2 month wait. Backround: Over the past summer i did a complete bed off rust restoration, busted rust, repainted frame with Rust Bullet, topcoat, and applied a home made waxyol rust prevention treatment, including welding a Scab Plate over the hole I discovered near the catalytic converter. Took about four days of back breaking labor. At the time, my Vin was not including in the service campaign and Toyota said they would not cover the cost to do preventative maintenance. Fast forward: This past November I recieved a notice in the mail that my VIN was now covered by the campaign. Still, I was a little nervous dropping it off because the frame looked good, and I patched the hole near the catylitic coverter. Yet the reality of the situation was that it was rusting from the inside out. I was worried that the dealership would just look at it and say since you fixed it they would put that crappy coating on it and be done with it. I was also worried because I had welded on rock sliders, was expecting them to give me a hard time about altering the frame. Instead, the service manager wanted me to send him pictures of the hole before It was welded it. He also said that Toyota would most likely reimburse me materials for all the work I did. Also said that I could take the truck home since I patched the frame. This was all good news, I was worried that the dealer was going to give me a hard time. Toyota owned up to the problem, and the dealership followed suit.

The Bad News: The dealer wants to charge me $300 dollars to re-intall my ARB Bumper and Winch, and $180 dollars to remove the sliders. Said they would not re-install the sliders. I will most likely remove the bumper and slider myself prior to dropping my truck. The dealership said that Toyota is not covering labor on aftermarket parts. I guess that makes sense. Has anyone else had a similar experience with aftermarket parts?

Ha... that's a joke regarding the the bumper... the truck would have the OEM bumper on it regardless

OK, so My best bet is to call the 4 local dealerships and see which one it will be no problem with.

    Thanks.

Hi guys - wow.... i have a lot of reading to do before making the leap and buying a new/used Taco. I have a 95 80 series cruiser and it's been such a darling but I now need to add a truck for packing stuff around.

anyway - is a 2011 truck likely to have the same fate as the earlier 2nd gens?
what about a new 2015 one?

did they change the design or material at all of the frame?
