Well, frame is in after 2 1/2 months, getting them to put on 5100's to level...frame swap was to start today but was notified they wanted to charge me $300 to "cut off" my bolt on rock sliders....Hells NO!, , then changed and said something to the effect of rusted bolts/ rusted to frame.... told them dont care aboutt bolts but not cutting sliders and to start work on the next taco in line and I'd remove them myself today. Thank Baby Jesus they called and just didnt cut'em......Guys remove EVERYTHING that didnt come on truck when you drove it off lot!!!

UPDATE....Went this past Sat. to get truck. Asked to test drive and give it a look over.....NOT HAPPY..... apparently zip ties are now OE as they were used to secure fenders, front bumper( very loose), various wire harnesses on frame. Some bolts on fenders just missing, skid plate not bolted/1 zip tie/ just hanging, some fasteners / hose clamps and clips not attached at all, grill and cowling (sp?) around fan / over radiator missing almost all fasteners. Also noticed a loose hose on top back area of motor along with various caps (to AC?) missing. Oh yeah also 2 nice deep scratches in obvious place on front bumper (def. will not buff out) luckily too good pics before i left it that day to prove no scratches / dents present . The passenger side front wheel well liner ( the black plastic sheet that keeps stuff from splashing into motor & pulleys) was torn to where they actually only reattached a small corner of what they located when reassembling. Test drive sucked as was horribly out of balance at 30 MPH so i did not even waste time and bother to look further / under to inspect frame / suspension etc as it was all aggravatingly laughable. Told service guy/ and showed just what i had noticed in 10 mins looking.....left truck and told rep needed to have their best guy spend a few hours reassembling / nut-bolting it back the way it was (or better) than when I dropped it off. I need an aspirin now. Giving them one more chance to get it right then Im "climbing the ladder".

Stick to your guns! The dealership that did mine kept talking the techs up but they obviously didn’t know much beyond a frame swap. Other techs had to fix their verious screw ups. Not sure if they are overworked and just don’t care or are just stupid and hired to do one job?!? They are payed flat rate, get the job done as fast as possible and not held responsible for quality of work.
    Finally got mine straightened out.

Does anyone know if you buy a used Tacoma does it still qualify for a frame inspection? I bought a 2008 regular cab last August and didn't know anything about the frame issues until I read about it on the forum.

Looking at this thread makes me think again about my truck lol, i had 2 spots of surface rust and freaked out with the wire wheel and por 15. My leaf packs are alittle rusty with surface rust that rubs off with my hand though so they will be getting wire wheeled and por 15 put on them this weekend. My truck looks brand new compared to some of these

My truck is in great condition. Except the frame and that really wasn’t too bad for 10 years in upstate NY winters .

4F9B943A-E962-4560-90F8-2432F393D95E.jpg My underbody.... literally just surface rust on the leaf packs. Its a 07 and went through one Michigan winter. The leafs are really bothering me. I do have a small spot starting next to the cat and i wire wheeled it like crazy and por 15ed it like crazy but it is still getting some rust “stain” running down the frame. Idk how to get it to stop. Might need to get the sand blaster on it then re apply por 15

My truck was inspected and crc’ed by the dealer three ago.

Last week I was inspecting my frame and pushed my thumb through the inner section of my frame. It was simply surface rust until a small pressure from my thumb broke through it!

I could pull away sections of my frame with my fingers.

Dealer submitted the paperwork to the mothership for final approval.

Dealer said my truck was safe to drive since the rot was only on one surface of the frame.

One has to take an instrument and tap the frame; don’t rely on sight alone.

    Well.......

What a drag! Make 'em fix it all - climb that ladder. I should be getting my truck back later this week or next week, and if it isn't good, I'm going to press on every single issue...

Toyota states truck is to be taken out of service until the frame is replaced! If you push that it’s a double edged sword. It costs them money to let you use a loaner and your truck is sitting and waiting. I doubt it’ll break in half while waiting for a frame. But if you’re sitting in a loaner the whole time they may rush the job! I had a very nice 4Runner while I waited (about 1 month) and had a shitload of problems with my truck got most of them fixed!

The loaner doesn't cost the dealership a penny. Do you think Toyota leans on the dealership to get the job done a day early just to save money on loaners? I don't, and if you do, why the heck do you even do business with the company? Get a Ford or something, and good luck to you. When my Ranger decomposed after 10 years, there was no recourse whatsoever, no pretense of standing behind their product. I was SOL. If I've been in a loaner for 2 months, what's another day or two? I think you're way over-thinking this thing.

No it doesn’t? If you’re in a loaner that is one less they have to loan out now what if they have 2, 3 or 10 Tacomas waiting for frames. Somebody that has the same loaner for weeks uses it more heavily than somebody that has it for a day or two. We used our loaner heavily as it was less wear on our other vehicles and it was supposed to replace the truck. The dealerships pinch every penny until it bleeds! It sure as hell costs them less to let you drive your vehicle than to give you a loaner! Toyota reimburses them but there are certain costs that aren’t covered! Why do you think they pay their techs flat-rate? To save a few days labor! And I did have a Ranger that I bought new and was falling apart after 10-12 years. Toyota is NOT infallible if they were they would have been watching the Ding Dongs they hired to make their frames! And you have way to much faith that these multi-million dollar companies are ethical in their dealings with the public.

Easy there big fella. I don't think Toyota is infallible, and yes, they are a huge corporation. I don't have faith in their 'ethics' whatsoever - I have no faith in any corporate ethics. I would just think that having put out all the expense to do a frame change, they wouldn't nickel and dime a friggin' loaner for another day. Let's face it, this is a class action lawsuit settlement - their hand was forced. But I would simply think the calculation at this point would be to try to maintain some semblance of customer good will and loyalty, and limit the damage.

In other words, if they totally fuck up my truck in this frame replacement deal, and refuse to make it right, my next truck will not be a Toyota - it's really as simple as that. And all of my friends will know why. I think they know that - screw corporate 'ethics' (which don't exist). A corporation needs customers, and they need their customers to tell their friends, etc. etc.

Hi all, been a long time lurker here, thought I would share my recent and fairly upsetting interactions with the dealership and my frame replacement.

February 1 2018, took my Tacoma in for a frame inspection. There were several holes entirely through the frame, so the expectation was that the frame would be replaced. Asked the service manager to have the techs look around and recommend to me anything else they think should be serviced or replaced during the frame replacement. I asked them this knowing there was a significant coolant leak from the side of the engine, brakes warped pretty good, rear shoes thin, trans fluid needed to be changed, needed new shocks, and the u joints had at least a half inch of play laterally. They missed all of these things, said I was good to go, and that I could drive my truck home and wait 3-4 months for the frame to come in. I expressed that I was not very comfortable driving my truck for that long with the frame in that condition, as it is a work truck to me and I do a lot of hauling and towing. Service writer pretty much said I was SOL because she didn't have any loaners and that I would get a call when the warranty was approved and in 3-4 months when the frame came in. Had to call several times to verify the warranty work was approved because they never contacted me regarding that.

Called several times over the next few months to try and gauge when the frame would be in, got different roundabout answers every time that all concluded with "we really have no idea, it could still be several months, we'll call you when it comes in". Fine, I waited and fixed my coolant leak, brakes, and u-joints in the mean time.

June 3, got a call the frame was in. Set up an appointment and dropped my truck off at the dealership which is two hours away the next week. Got a 2008 Camry on Tuesday and was told the truck would be done on Friday, and that they would remove my airbags but could not replace them without me paying for that.
Got a call Friday that they broke the upper control arms while reassembling and would be replacing them free but the truck would be in the shop till Tuesday.

Went to pick up truck and everything looked fine. Service writer told me that I had a transmission fluid leak from my radiator(it was weeping from my trans cooler that I installed, and I never had any issues like that before) but the tech "topped up" the fluid for me. Drove two hours home, checked fluid level and the tech had significantly overfilled it. Drained some excess and went about my life.
1500 miles later noticed some significant fluid under the front of my truck. Looked through the grille and saw this.
    IMG_20180626_102928716.jpg IMG_20180626_121201463.jpg

They pinched my trans line between the frame when reassembling, causing flow to stop and over pressure my trans cooler causing it to start weeping. Was no where near a dealership or mechanic but managed to cobble together some fuel line to replace the line with and had a half quart of trans fluid with me and was able to get home.
If the techs had literally just looked through the grille or 6" from the leak, they would have seen that they pinched the line but apparently they are too incompetent to even do that.

Trying to figure out how to proceed without just calling the dealership and screaming at them. They owe me a new transmission cooler and if I have any issues in the near future they better be covering my transmission rebuild but I will not ever be taking it back to their shop for anything.
