Thanks. They'll likely be able to remove my new LCA's since they were installed only 2 weeks ago. I should have waited until this frame inspection but I did not do my homework here. Have already bought the upper ball joints and will get them installed soon unless they'll get replaced free as part of my frame swap. My leaf springs were done by the previous owner but not with a Toyota dealer. So they are fine. If they replace them, I want to ensure that I have the same lift as I have now. Not that my truck is "lifted". but during the leaf spring inspection, the dealer said something that implied that.

I live in Des Moines too and just had my inspection today. Failed. Glad to hear you had a good experience with Toyota of Des Moines.

Hey all, has anyone had their frame fail due to the separation pictured above? Been following this for a long time, frame passed inspection, but I'm not exactly satisfied with the result. Just checking back in a year or so later to see if anyone has had their frame fail an inspection without actual perforations. My frame is solid everywhere else.

Ahh yeah if you already have the new 4leaf replacements then they'll use the same ones. Only if you have the old 3 leaf that are under recall do you get new leaf springs.

Hey guys, I'm a first time Tacoma owner, purchased on Dec 30th 2018. My truck is from the base of the NC mountains, Marion, which do get salted pretty heavily. One owner prior to me. 2007 DCLB 70k miles. I took my truck in for inspection last week and they said it passed. I'm not convinced they put it on a lift. This looks it meets the 10mm perforation requirement to me..... I'd love to know your thoughts as I'm going to take it back to the dealership and make sure they see these places. 1st pic is the frame above the forward mount of leaf spring on passenger side. Second is more towards the cab on passenger side. They told me there was only surface rust.......

    Thanks!

This is scary! Regardless of it not being a hole, it's clearly falling apart.

Get underneath and look near the cats in the front. It may be soft which is a guaranteed fail.

    Mine looked like this

Mine actually looks pretty clean right there. There some rust just behind the cross member, but the worst I've noticed is towards the middle of the cab and back at the leaf spring mounts. Too hard to see the leaf spring mount on driver side because of gas tank.

Seriously go to a different dealer as soon as you can!
I wouldn’t use the first dealer they were gonna stick you with a bad frame!
Don’t make an appt tell them this just passed somewhere else show them the pics.
Time is running out do you know the in service date?
I’d be ready to leave it also.

Great! I'm already slated to get new leaf springs with them next week some time. I'll make sure they check this thing out again and even try to point this stuff out to them if they'll let me go back with them. There's no point in leaf springs now if the frame is falling apart where they mount to it. I'm in Gastonia NC which doesn't get a ton of salt, so these guys likely haven't seen a lot of this issue...... or so I'm going to assume. :)

Should I go through this thread (169 pages!!!) to see if there are other parts I should have them look at?

Just for fun, here's a pic of the frame on drivers side, forward mount for leaf springs. Not nearly as bad, but the same delamination is going on.9031D628-9918-4431-8910-EC11FA9DB24E.jpg

The dealer I went to didn't approve my frame for replacement. They claimed I drilled the hole in my frame. I have another inspection at a different dealership on Tuesday for a second opinion.

Jesus, what made them assume that? That would be a SHITTY situation if the second dealer refuses to change it as well.

I would be shocked if that doesn't qualify. My first thought was to reach for horseradish, for some reason.....

Haha If you throw some rye bread and sauerkraut at my frame you may have a pretty good Reuben!

Update: I got to the dealership this morning at 7:35. They put it on a lift for me and I pointed out the bad places. The techs seem to be hung up on the word "perforation". They also just happened to the lift supporting my frame directly under the true perforation, so that was not visible. They are submitting the claim to Toyota "so it will not be the dealerships decision" as to fail the frame or not. After eaves dropping and seeing the techs navigate the Toyota frame recall information, I don't believe they actually inspected my frame last week. They had to have an experienced guy come and show them how to navigate the frame checklist.

With all that said, they supposedly submitted the claim to Toyota with pictures (hopefully ones I emailed them) and I should hear back in 3-4 days............. I'm doubtful that they are on my team, but I'll kee y'all posted.
