Hey all looking for some frame replacement advice. Took my 07 in for frame replacement at Karl Malone in UT, they are telling me I need to pay to replace some brake parts because they are seized and it's not covered by the replacement. I thought I could get it handled with zero dollars out of pocket. Any experiences or paths to getting this covered?

    1. I was just told I qualify for a new frame, 08/08/19.
Now I got your attention, here's the story.
Bought the truck used, 08 dc, 4.0l, mt., in 2015.
Northern Ontario truck, the coated the frame after I took ownership. Then I learned about the frame issues, inspected myself, had them reinspect, all's good they said, and I got 15 years from service date because of undercoating the frame.
Then I hear all this talk about changes in lawsuit (or whatever), and now the warranty expires this year sometime.
So I go to dealership, ask questions, and they offer another inspection, all's good, but I'm past any warranty. But they'll do another scrape and coat(didn't think I had it before, no records, who knows).
So they start a scrape, and low and behold, there's big holes at the front tow rings, and I now qualify!
So, after all the b.s., just waiting for confirmation tomorrow, and then wait for a new frame.
Moral of the story, don't give up.

There! Confirmed! Now the 6+ month wait for a frame. Long list ahead of me.
And, have to go through these posts to see what I should get changed while they're at it.

I got mine done at Larry h in Murray. I had some brake parts seized and they just called corporate and got it approved. The only money I spent out of pocket was a new battery and shocks that I provided and they installed for free.

I wouldn’t recommend Larry h necessarily (for other reasons), but any dealer should be able to get parts covered that are rusted because of or to the frame.

It might be like my issue, they considered my trailer hitch a accessory and that's not part of the frame recall. But i don't know seems each dealer is different

Im hoping this is the outcome, I contacted toyota corporate, they noted the issue on a "case" and contacted the dealers customer service person (i think) who contacted me, then the service manager, who called me and said he would submit the items to toyota corporate for approval. Waiting on the outcome of that.

Greetings Tacoma Drivers, New to this forum today, but reading with interest the information about frame replacements on the Tacoma. I am driving a USA 2006 Tacoma and have owned it since 2008. I reside in Canada with it. At the moment struggling with Toyota USA and Canada as I seem to be stuck in Limbo. In 2016 I took my truck in for the frame inspection and at that time it passed and was sprayed with their CRC. They told me all was fine. In May of this year I was changing out my tires from winters to summers and wow noticed a bad section in the frame that fit the description of frame rot. I immediately contacted Toyota and they setup an appointment for May 15th. I took it in and this is at my local Canadian Dealership. They said yes it failed, but I missed the deadline for USA trucks which according to them was January 31 2019. However I am reading on this thread that Toy4me, has had his truck in on Aug 5th not 8 days ago and says he had his inspected failed and is now inline for a new frame. What gives and how do I get mine fixed? Could really use some help here, my truck is in excellent shape all over and only has 84,300 miles on it. Really appreciate any and all advice at this point. Thanks

Yes, you are in a bad spot. Even though your Tacoma was built in the US, the settlement goes by where it was originally sold when it was new. There are 2 class action lawsuits. 1 for the US and 1 for Canada. The US settlement specifically states that the settlement doesn't cover trucks imported from other countries. You are in a unique situation where yours is imported to Canada from originally being sold in the US.

As far as the dates, all 2005-2010 Tacos were covered till January 31, 2019 for US trucks and July 21, 2019 for Canadian trucks. After that it's only covered for 12 years from date of 1st use. (The date it was 1st sold at the dealer) Unfortunatly, that time is past for your 2006. Toy4me's truck is a 2010. That's why it's still eligible for a frame replacement.

My truck was originally sold in Canada and is currently in the US. I had to drive to Canada for the frame inspection and approval. I will be making another trip up there when my frame comes in.

As for your sitiuation, you need to look very closely at the Canadian settlement. If it doesn't say anything about trucks imported from other countries, you MIGHT be able to argue your case and win. I wouldn't take the dealers word for it. You need to contact Toyota Canada. Hopefully your Canadian dealer documented the inspection in May.

Ideally you should have driven your truck to the US for a frame inspection before January 31, but that's in the past now.

Well I would have for sure if I would have gotten some kind of notice. Both USA and Canada have me registered since the rear leaf spring repairs back in 2016, but I have never recieved nothing from them since, even missed the properler shaft bearing replacement, had that done myself, only found out about that today on my own nor any of the recalls since 2008. I talked to Canada they said so sad too bad your a USA truck, no sympathy there Trying now with the USA respray that was ended in May 21st this year, as I was in to the dealer on May 15, seems when it did not pass then they could not spay, but I thought it looked like they should have accepted for frame replacement then. LSC for CRC.

As for the Canadian Class Action it said if you owned a Toyota or bought a Toyota and I bought mine though a dealer although not a Toyota dealer it seems I should fit, perhaps someone else with better knowledge of the Canadian one may be of help with a comment as to that?

Page 5 of the Canadian Settlement Agreement.
    https://www.clg.org/pdf/7/4/2/1/Canadian-Settlement-Agreement.pdf

2.24 “National Class” or “National Class Members” means, for settlement purposes only, all persons, entities, or organizations resident in Canada (including the Territories), excluding the members of the Quebec Class, who, at any time as of the entry of the Pre-Approval Order, own or owned, purchase(d), or lease(d) any of the Subject Vehicles distributed for sale or lease in Canada. Excluded from the Class are: (a) Toyota, its officers, directors, and employees; its affiliates and affiliates’ officers, directors, and employees; its distributors and distributors’ officers, directors and employees; and Toyota Dealers and Toyota Dealers’ officers and directors; (b) Class Counsel; (c) judicial officers and their immediate family members and associated court staff assigned to this case; and (d) persons or entities who 5 or which timely and properly exclude themselves from the Class as provided in this Settlement Agreement.

This is the key part imo. Your truck was originally distributed in the US. Toyota motor Corp had no part in your truck being imported to Canada from the US.

Good luck. That sucks that your truck has such low miles for the age but will soon fall apart.

Thanks for cheering me up bobsuruncle......glad I'm not your nephew :boink::oldglory::canada: All the best to you anyway. My big problem was that although the USA had all my contact info since 2016, they never included me in any of their mailings for this or any safety recalls like the floor mat interference with the gas pedal. Missed out on the frame recall, and just found out today I missed out on the propeller shaft bearings, did it on my own. Yes sucks to have a truck like this with no frame through no fault of my own. Seemed I fitted the criteria for the frame inspection and CRC coating in 2006 and it was documented. Just can't figure why they let me think all was well and never sent me the 2017 followup letter. This photo taken last fall.

Keep in your back pocket if worse case evolves you pay for a frame/ install. Might even get lucky and find a tech up there that would install for a fraction of what a dealer would charge. Good lookin truck, probably worth the investment compared to new cost and nothing out there that competes

Thanks EnonEye for the morale support and the nice comment about my Tacoma. If I don't get the recall repair from Toyota USA, which I am still hoping might happen I will likely just have the frame repaired by taking out the two bad spots which are the same on both side just before the turn of the front section. I got a body shop that does frame straightening and frame off restorations. A shortcut I know but the cost of a full frame replacement out of my own pocket would be just too much. If I had the American Dollars :oldglory: it would be about 40% less with the exchange up here :canada:. It is a very nice truck and I have tried to maintain it well as I can like my past two Toyota Trucks. I still can't figure how I was in, in 2016, had it inspected Passed and CRC spray done, and according to my dealer it would be recorded, yet missed the 2017 letter about going back. I really don't want to be a broken record :sadviolin:here on this and going on and on, as most members don't want to continue reading sob stories. I will just have to suck it up and move on, just painful losing out on a $15,000 repair for free and giving the truck a good long life.

I do want to thank everyone on here for their input, as I did find it very helpful, even though hard to hear. I even appreciate bobsuruncle for making me see what I didn't want to see. :lalala:

My bumper support bar was shot and the hitch took alot of work to clean it up. I can't understand why they didnt give me a heads up about the bumper when my frame was replaced. Glad I checked it out before I used it.

Well I got the truck back, couple little things and one big thing that there is serious pulsing of the brakes, way worse than anything I had before the recall work. They did mention my pads were worn, could this be a symptom of the brake lines being freshly flushed but with sad old pads?
