Just got a Toyota Customer Support Program notification for frame corrosion perforation in the mail today with my VIN on it. Mine's a 2014 and the notification states it is for 2011 to 2017 models in "Cold Climate States". It extends the frame corrosion warranty out from the original 3yr/36000 miles to 12 years with no mileage limitation. Fully transferable to subsequent owners. It also states a separate announcement will be forthcoming for a Limited Service Campaign to apply Corrosion Resistant Compound to the frames registered in the states covered. It says the Service Campaign will be available for two years from the time of owner notification.

Im here in Edmonton Alberta, my truck is an 05, I bought from a GM dealer in June they knew of the recall and booked an appoint at a Toyota dealership, apparently a dealer cannot sell a veh if there is an outstanding recall on it, I had the truck up on my hoist (I'm a small garage owner) I poked around and found nothing really out of place looked like a 14yr old frame to me, anyway it came back from Toyota, and sure enough failed for frame inspection and rear leaf upgrade, I thought it was odd so I put it back up on the hoist to see what it actually failed for, closer inspection I found a huge hole (2x3 inches) on pass side just behind front cab mount, on drv side a crack, they hit it with a hammer, and by the looks of it they knew where to look, the metal was so thin its not funny, rotted from inside out, They have a frame ordered for me, likely wont see it till Nov, DEC time frame.
my neighbor has an 07, so I crawled under it, no hammer needed you can put your fingers thru the frame and cab mount, funny thing is he said it was inspected about year earlier and they said it was good and under coated it, he took it back for a re inspection and they ordered a frame for him as well.
my guess it was rotted out a year earlier, he was a happy camper to find out it was covered. (original owner of a low mile 07)
The dealership I took mine to must be backed up as they have a large pile of frames out behind the shop.
Not sure how long the recall is for but as of June 2019 my 05 made the cut.

Glad you and your neighbor made it in time. For Canada, all 05-10 Tacos were covered until July 21, 2019. After that date, it's 12 years from 1st use. I got my Canadian Taco inspected on July 4, 2019 and approved 2 weeks later.

EME, a dealer can sell a vehicle with an open recall if its not a safety issue and the remedy is not available and backordered. They will sell it and call you in when the part is available.

A dealer that sells or swaps a vehicle to another dealership that then has it on its lot for sale as new, that's not considered a sale. They don't fill out a title as seller/ buyer.
First use is the day a buyer takes the truck.

But, If the second dealer uses it as a demo or loaner or a dealer parts runner, then that's considered first use just like a sale.

Dealer subbed it out to 3rd party. They had the Toyota forklift. Dealer was a pita throughout the whole process actually.

Who's your local dealer? My truck originally came from Bud Clary Toyota in Yakima.

I've been wondering the same thing. Although my replacement frame will never see salted roads, ya have to wonder about trucks that do. You can be sure Toyota is not going to pay for 2 frames on the same truck.

Received my letter in the mail Saturday. Planning on taking a closer look at my frame when it cools off. When I put my sliders on, I only saw minor surface rust in minimal areas.

Bought my truck used and the person who had it before had the truck registered in NY. The frame has a considerable amount of rust especially for a 13 from its time in NY. I do not live in one of the states covered but would I be eligible because the truck was driven in one of the states that is eligible?

Doesnt matter. Its new...no holes. Treat it like the piece of crap it might be. Use fluid film or the equivalent. You can make it last a LONG time. If rust sneeks up on you again...this time its your fault.

I think it’s just a shit design the frame is multiple pieces of thinner steel welded together when salty or brine water gets in there between layers it can’t get out and it will rust out it’s just a matter of time . Fluid film heavy heavy from inside out is our best chance imo.

I agree, wish Toyota made a statement like your posting in the owners manual to give us new Tacoma owners a heads-up.

As far as I can tell, they're still the same visually, but the replacements are a revised/updated version. Things like changing the location of holes to eliminate excessive water to enter the front boxed portion, installing frame hole plugs in most holes that previously where wide open and also using caulk to seal the void between frame layers. This is my 06 on a new frame that was replaced at the end of April this year.

I haven't found any concerning signs of it weathering yet here in the PNW, but will be keeping an eye on it over this fall and winter.

How much rust does the truck need to have? I bought mine a year ago, no rust now all the frame welds are rusting and a few other spots. :notsure:

You need to have one rusted through hole that is at least 10mm in diameter.

In the future, if you see or feel a soft or questionable spot, you can take a ball peen hammer and poke at it to see if it becomes a hole. Just don't tell the dealer you did it.

I went to a Ziebart dealer with my new frame per the advice of a local auto body guy with my frame replacement in January of this year. Planning on bringing it in yearly for check and reapplication.
