After 6 months waiting, my harness came in and my 05 Now at 105k, went in today. The dealer seems honest so far and gave me a Rav 4. (I had a bad experience at another dealer who wanted to charge me upwards of $2000 due to my Toytec lift and accessories.
My new dealership (LaFontaine in Dearborn, MI) assured me "a no cost recall" and the mechanic seemed confident to have it done in a few days. He was finishing up a 2 door today. The service writer said "we make a lot of money on these recalls." HA! I bet.

The new leaf springs will be included and I am replacing the diff & trans case fluids, plugs, air filters, & serp belt at my cost. They recommended I did not need new brake pads (recently done aftermarket) and said "don't replace anything not broken". Sounds like they will still get about $350 from me. But that seems worth it considering the new frame, harness, brake lines and LCA's.

Ironically, today I got a letter from the first stealership, offering me $13,875 for my truck! Yeah right! It was signed by the same GM who met with me and told me there was nothing she could do - her hands were tied by corporate, there is no way to avoid the extra $2000 OR MORE cost - and get this...they wanted to keep my vehicle for the "70 days" which we all know has turned into 6 months!...they were Total BS scammers! They even told me that they would not be able to take my truck back on a trade-in until the recall work was done. So I wonder what they think my truck is really worth?! I want to go in there just to get an estimate and then walk out.

Anyhoo, I hope my patience pays off.

Sherpa, your old dealer if full of it.
A buddy of mine just traded his taco for a tundra without having his frame replaced.
The dealer he went to for the frame replacement told him he could take the truck if he got it fixed immediately,at his expense, then bring it back later for the new frame.
Or he could rent a car himself!
He called Toyota corporate and they gave him a rental.
3 days later he picked the truck up and traded it for a tundra at a different dealer.
Moral of this story, dealers are like people. There are some nice ones and there are some a** holes.

Really glad I looked around for an honest place. Not too many Toy dealers in the D and the one who sold me the truck didn't want it back either. Now I can just keep it for another 10 years or 100k, whichever comes first! :fingerscrossed:

Here's the deal two day ago I brought my 2005 yota in for a new frame( after waiting 6 Months for the fame to be buildt), they gave me a rav 4 to drive free of charge, they are replacing the leaf springs , front A arms and any other part on the frame that has damage or is damaged from them taking the truck completly apart.

They asked me if I wanted to trade the truck in before or after the work was completed on a new tacoma, I said no my 2005 runs like the day I bought it even with 185,000 miles.................Dealership is Toyota of Vineland NJ 08360.

The total cost could cost the Toyota Corporation up to 14,000.00 USD I can't belevie they back their Trucks up like this! Thats why I been driving them my entire life, we had them in Combat also the mid east models and unless they were blown up they never broke down!
    Scouts Out!

I know it depends on "stealerships" (lets be honest) but how "bad" does the frame have to be before they'll consider replacing it? Im in NC and our state has just been added to the list. Getting the oil changed next month so Im going to have them look when I go. Just wondering how bad, bad has to be...

Hi everyone. Just got word that my 2006 will need to have the frame replaced as well. However my service advisor is telling me that in the past customers that have had this done have paid anywhere from $200-$5000 outta pocket. I asked why there would be out of pocket charges for a recall and they said that if there are frozen parts that have to be forced off they aren't covered by the recall. This all sound wrong to me so naturally I have a few questions
1)how much have people on here had to pay outta pocket?
2)have you heard anything like what I've mentioned from a dealership?
3)has anyone on here had this recall done at a dealership in Hawaii?

I realize that there maybe answers to some of the questions in this thread but I'm hoping that I won't have to read 29 pages to get them? Can anyone help? Thanks and Alooooooooohaaaaa!!!

You are on the hook for nothing. Dont pay the dealer one cent. This is totally Toyotas call to have the frame replaced under warranty. Get your free rental, put some fuel stabilizer in your truck and prepare to wait 6-8 months. I can't imagine Hawaii being exempt from anything that would require the customer to pay for a recall. Good luck.

One of my friends just had her trucks frame changed 2 months ago and the only cost to her was parts that were worn not covered under the recall. The dealer advised to change at no labor cost, shocks, exhaust and brakes. The only problem was the length of time to get the frames. Her's took 7 months to arrive. My 03 just failed 3 weeks ago, the dealer told me they are having a problem getting the frames. It took them 9 months to get 5 frames. They were told the next batch will arrive in approx. 12 months.

Hey one, if there are any frozen parts,or other parts that are rusted(I.e.,brake lines), all the dealer has to do if notify Toyota corporate for approval. Your dealer is being lazy, and trying to put your $ in their pocket. Make your dealer get the $ from Toyota.
For all of us that has had their truck fail and not be given a rental, take your truck in for state inspection, make sure for your safety you mention the holes in the frames. You will fail the safety inspection, and Toyota will be required to provide a rental. If every truck with a rusted frame was getting a rental, you will see corporate getting frames and springs made at a much faster rate.

Wow thanks for all of the replies. I agree, it didn't sound right to me either. I've never heard of anyone having to pay for anything on a recall item. I fully intend to clarify EVERYTHING with both the dealership and Toyota corporate before going through with this. The problem is that here in Hawaii we have one company that owns all of the Toyota dealerships. I have a feeling that all dealerships would give me the same answer. Ughhh just another one of the downsides to living in paradise.
