    One more frame down.

Just got mine back. It looks like they did a nice job with it. Just about 10 months from diagnosis to completion.

I had them do the ECGS bushing, replace all four 5100's (now set to 1.75), and replace my serpentine belt.

I believe enough for a 10mm hole to be punched through one side of the frame.

My 2006 Tacoma failed its frame inspection 6 months ago and I left it at my dealership [Middletown (Connecticut) Toyota] to do the work last week. They provided me a free loaner vehicle: A similar but brand new (350 miles) Tacoma. Partway into the work they called and asked if I would pay for new rear shocks (the cost of parts only), as it was likely the old ones would be destroyed. I agreed. The repair was completed today and I picked it up; they appear to have done a workmanlike job. When I left I counted 16 new frames piled up outside waiting for new homes.

Just got the phone call. My frame failed. Said 2-4 months. They said I could drive it until my inspection runs out (August). Was planning on selling and getting a fullsize before this, but now I may have to trade.

They offered me to trade it in for full good condition blue book, but I feel that's not that great. They also are a higher priced dealership. Not sure what I'm going to do.

Doesn't take much..... My frame looks pretty damn good. There was a soft spot under the drivers side door.
This is what happens when they poke a hole in it and fail it. Not much of a hole...but apparently its big enough.

    Check out my build thread.
So last time I was at the dealership the told me they were doing the frame check and my response to him was that he wasn't going to find any rust under there because I actually get under my truck at least once a year and I paint the frame and skid plates to prevent that problem. It just so happens I painted the week before I took it in. So for over a year now they have been talking about the recall for the leaf springs, every oil change I asked what the solution was for that issue and everytime they replied there isn't one yet. Well my leaf springs that are supposed to be shaped like a (U) are shaped like an (S). I went out and purchased some OME Dakars because I was tired of getting the shaft from Toyota

I have a 2013 that I bought in Nov. 2012 and have been using only Fluid Film twice a year, and it still looks pretty new underneath after three very harsh winters. Through my research I have found that Spring, not Fall, is the time when you should do your undercoating. It's a lot more wet, humid, and warmer temps in the spring which all promote rusting the most. All of the professional undercoating places will tell you early Spring as well. I personally have been spraying on 3 - 4 cans in the early Spring, and then touching up with 2 cans in the late fall. Seems to be working well for me so far. Then when the frame starts to get white colored from salt in winter I will take it through a washer and do a cold water rinse on it.

On my lower control arms the road spray seems to wash the Fluid Film off easily and they were actually starting to rust, so I got some Amsoil HDMP and sprayed only on those spots that get washed off easily.

I'm really annoyed about Toyota's criteria for an actual replacement here. The entire underside of my truck is covered in rust and its certainly headed in the direction of 'more then normal corrosion,' but the inspection passed. Apparently no holes yet. This weekend I'm going to double check their work - I'm shocked that I'm not eligible for a replacement.

In the case that I don't find any 10mm holes, what's the best treatment for this to do on your own? I've read a lot about preventative stuff, what if you've already got a thorough coating of rust? A buddy recommended painting the entire thing with POR 15, any alternatives?

Yea...I've been tagged to get one. They already sent me the 'parts ordered' list including leaf springs. They're telling me they ordered frames back in January and it should be 2-3 months. I'll believe it when I see it.

I have an 08 and my brother has an 06. We live in SW Virginia. We both received recall letters. Fortunately for both of us the dealer inspected the frames and found no significant rust. Both were sprayed with a protective coating at Toyota's expense.
They did say that there were several waiting for frame replacements. We lucked out!
